Ladybug helped make a good afternoon better.

Last weekend my lab and I were wading the swamps near my home looking for a few loafing ducks in the afternoon. We had been at it for several hours and hadn't found a duck so just before sundown I decided to stop and take a break. I sat down leaning against an old cypress tree and pulled out my snack, an apple. I quickly realized that my vest knife was at home and my Stretch and Dragonfly were both in my pants pockets, underneath several layers and my wading belt. Wanting to slice the apple and feed a bit to my lab I started to undo the layers and pull down the waders, a major undertaking.....then I remembered my ladybug on my keychain. Aha! It did a great job carving up the apple and as I watched the sunset I think the dog was as content as I was. The Ladybug helped save the afternoon.

I think I need another one to leave in my vest. Maybe a Salt.

That is more like poetry than a shared story. Great read. Thanks for sharing.

I wish I could get away from the hustle & bustle of city life and enjoy the moments you describe. Thanks for sharing.

Awesome story. On a side note apples are poisonous well the skin seeds and core have cyanide in them not enough to harm humans but enough to make a dog ill. Just my thoughts

Eh, many animals eat apples...i've never seen a horse get sick from it, of course they have a much larger body mass for the given amount of cyanide so maybe that's why. I'm sure many squirrels have snacked on apples and lived to tell about it.

Good story, I could picture you and your dog enjoying the apple. I also have a Ladybug on my keychain, black FRN and SE, love it.

That's a good story. I know your lab was appreciative of the fact that you were willing to get almost naked to get to your knife. :D I love having a Ladybug salt with me all the time no matter what else I'm EDC. Now we have the Manbug FRN and soon the G-10 Manbug to choose from. Also, the Jester sprint run. They are all the same size with different attributes (and prices  :D ). I'm glad to see Spyderco provide a variety of the LB size knife.

Cliff Clavin-esque facts about the cyanide in apples...
From Snopes: http://www.snopes.com/food/warnings/apples.asp

I would include a pull quote, but Snopes isn't letting me select any text, regardless the article states that the seeds are not broken down by the digestive system of the animals that eat the apples, but are rather passed through so that they can be distributed farther away from the parent tree.

Pick yourself up a Salt 1! So lightweight you'll probably forget that it's there.

Thanks for the compliments guys. Any resemblence to poetry was strictly accidental. To clarify my keys were in my jacket and outside of waders and clothes. I'm sure the dog is more grateful for me not stripping down in the middle of the swamp.

I just might have to get a Salt 1 and add a lanyard to my vest. Of course I could use another Dragonfly.......or could just buy both. Lol.
