KBR- After seeing your Ka-Bar woes, I feel compelled to offer a bit of advice.

If you really want to get a K sharp, I mean <b>razor</b> sharp, pull out the 204. Back bevel the edge to 30 degrees, then sharpen at 40 degrees. The back-bevel removes the factory 50 degree grind, allowing you to get a truly sharp edge.

I've used this on my black Ka-Bar, and it really does work! <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Keepin' it real...real sharp, that is.

I usually have a balisong in my hand where they can't see it and I flip it out the second they look like they're going to attack or try to scare me. It usally deters them. (of course I never do it to people I know, but you never know what strangers will do)

I made the mistake of lending my Endura to my girlfriend (now my wife) on one of our early outings...were were sitting on a riverbank with a 6-pack of Coronas and a lime. She asked to borrow my knife to slice the lime. I warned her it was sharp...OK, you can guess the rest. She wasn't cut bad enough to require stitches, but that was the last time she borrowed one of my blades (that was almost four years ago).

P.S. - I did buy us good kitchen knives that are all *very* sharp...I will say that she has gotten used to handling them and told me just two days ago that she really likes having nice sharp kitchen knives! :-)

Yeah, I will lend them out because I like people who dont own a knife to get the experience of using a quality tool (spyderco) so they know there is a difference between cheap knives and good ones and hopefully they will decide that they shouldent be without a knife, I believe that every adult should have a knife, they are just too important and usefull to be without. Also, the more of us there are the better it will be for all of us and the manufactures who make these important possesions of ours. By the way, also, nine times out of ten I end up selling these people knives, I have also given away more than my share to friends that deserved one but couldent afford one.

I hope you made that ******* pay big time. I'm a mellow fellow myself, but if anybody used one of my knives like that, I'd fly off the handle for sure.

That said, I generally refuse to lend any of my Spydies. They're very sharp, and those people I know aren't used to such sharp knives, so they'd likely hurt themselves.

I've done it several times. One time stands out, when I was working part time for an auto parts store, after the guy used it, he threw it back to me about 15' in the air and the same on distance, I missed it! Our Endura hit the concrete floor with a thud and a bounce, ouche! It still looks great, and locks up solid! RKBA!

I worked with as friend last year; I had gotten a Native FRN 60/40 afew weeks before. The night before I had gotten into a "zen-sharpening" mode, and had the Native very sharp (not sure where on the scale). The next morning I show it to him and tell him "Be carefull, it is as sharp as I have ever gotten a knife", well, I've never seen this before, and I hope to never see it again but.... He ran the blade accross the palm of his hand....to say he laid his hand open would be an exageration, but he did go through several layers of skin most places and all the way through in a couple of places. I couldn't react to stop him because it never occured to me that anyone would do something like that. Luckily for him he didn't do more than use the weight of the blade or he wouldn't have been at work for a while. He is usually not a bonehead.
