Did you start small and stay small or as you collect are your preferences changing?

I have expanded in size a little. I used to not like anything over 3 inches, but the Para 2 broke me of that. I still prefer to keep it around 3 inches if i can depending on the knife and how i plan to use it and the legality of carrying it. There's a big difference between what i'm comfortable carrying and using, and what the rest of the world is comfortable with me carrying and using. If nobody else cared, i might EDC something around 4 inches.

I carried SAK for about 10 years. Than I switched to one hand openers and found 3.5" blade most useful for my needs. Now days I mostly carry C83 Persian and Caly3.5, but couple days every week Kopa reside in my watch pocket. My biggest carry is Navaja.

Its very true and a 4" blade isn't really that big, its a paring knife in the kitchen. But that's not the way many people see them. I mean I get the big Emerson with a skull on the clip or other overly tactical looking knives. There just not something you want to bring out in the lunch room to butter your bagel, but most of the Spyderco's don't have that demeanor. On the other hand maybe it is just the more we handle them the more we become accustomed and comfortable with the size.

I like small and big folding knives. It depends a little on the situation i'm in. At home or in my spare time i like to carry a bigger knife. In my professional life, i carry a smaller knife like the poliwog or walker. More gentleman like and classy. And yeah i like also huge fixed blades. I use my fixed blades and a axe for my outdoor activities.

So i buy small and big knives.

New to Spyderco, so I am just getting some that I like the "looks" of. I have a Tasman Salt and a Military so far. I am seriously looking at the Navaja :cool:

Maybe you need to start packing your chef's knife to work, that might raise some eyebrows :D I know exactly what you mean, the Mili seems a bit too large, for me anyway. It's one model I just haven't warmed up to, the Para 2 is more within my comfort zone. But that being said, I would of thought the Para 2 was huge a couple of years ago so I guess you just never know.

Same here. I've long been into small,unobtrusive,very lightweight knives, but since being bitten by "The Bug", I'm finding a tolerance for larger and heavier blades. Also, since I'm now spending real money, and doing it more frequently, I now find it's more satisfying if this investment has a little more heft to it. It's a little anti-climactic to spend a big chunk of change, then recieve something about the size and weight of a cigarette. A Manix2 solved THAT problem,LOL !! :D .
But,all that being said, my most recent purchase ( on it's way from CS ) is the tiny little Dragonfly, so go figure.

Endura (3.75") is about the max for me for anything I'm going to carry. Stretch at 3.5" feels pretty comfortable. But the Delica at just under 3 is the Goldilocks size. Useful for 99% of what I need a knife for, feels good in the hand, and rides nice in the pocket (or IWB). Dragonfly (2.25") is the minimum. A little small but still useful.

One of my first was a blue Endura, thinking I'd really like the large size. But over the years I've found it to be too big and kind of awkward to use. Now I carry a PM2 and a Terzuola slipit.

I know, the appetite for these knives is truly amazing. Before our latest purchase arrives most of us have already decided on our next knife. Big, small it just doesn't matter there is market for all of them. What other product do you know of that people buy two of so they can have one to put on a shelf and look at and another one to use (not that I can afford that luxury) :D

Started collecting in 2004 and I was only concerned with if the blade was fully serrated or not.
We are still allowed to carry any locking folder over here as long as the total lengnth doesn't exceed 28 cm, so size was not very much of an issue.
Back then I carried my fully serrated Military, Endura and Pacific Salt a lot.

However after my absence from Spyderco and my stint with traditional folders and SAK's I found out that I don't need that big of a knife, so after returning over here I have been carrying the small or little Spydies with my Calypso/SE or Delica I/SE the biggest I will carry.

And this is where Spyderco REALLY shines; the little big knives :cool:

I just ordered a SS Kiwi slip it and I'm eying them new Dragonflies and Ladybugs

I seem to own mainly around 3.5 inch blades but I love big and small blades about equal and have no preference. I do lean towards 3.5 though :)

I'm really all over the map when it comes to knives...big, little, fixed, folder,and everything in between.
I was young when I first started using and collecting knives, so I tried to stay on the smaller side..had to hide em from the Ma and Pa :D
Once they sussed out my hobby, though, I said screw it and jumped in head first.

My first good knife was a SOG Flash II. But then I started getting smaller blades, I was into the whole, lightweight carry and smaller can hide better and doesnt look as scary. But then I started getting more into spyderco and wanted a "tatical" blade, and got my Manix 2. I was like thats not so bad. The rest is history. You can do more with a decent sized blade.

It is nicer to have a larger blade I agree, I love my Native 5 for instance but I just seem to run out of blade sometimes. The smaller blades are still great for 90 percent of my tasks but its great to have the option of something with a larger thicker blade it just makes it that much more useful.
