Dragonfly Question

#1

Post by rondv »

Is the Dragonfly VG-10 with G-10 scales more expensive than FRN VG-10 and ZDP-189 because it has liners? Is the G-10 scales the only one with liners?
Thanks!

I think I got the ZDP D'Fly for $72 at CS. If you like steel and edges it's the one to go for. :) FRN works very well. ZDP189 is a material the Japanese take great pride in.

My two cents, the g10 feels like a tank and has great fit and finish, more "gentlemanish", if you look for an edc user, i'd go for the standard frn or their ZDP-189 one, no fear to torture it :p

The G10 model has full length drilled liners and scales. It's quite a bit more expensive than a liner less FRN injection molded knife, also heavier.

Either is going to be quite study, the g10 more-so late to the reinforced pivot.

That's the answer I was looking for. I ordered a D'fly in ZPD-189 FRN BRG and received a VG-10 G-10 model. All my :spyder: until now are ZDP-189 and H1 salt. Now I need to decide to send this back or keep it and order one in ZDP-189.

Did you order through amazon? and was it shipped direct from them or one of the other places(redsgear). The reason why I ask is because I ordered the BRG zdp Delica through Buy.com which was actually shipped from redsgear. They sent me the VG-10 emerson version. I contacted them and they paid for me to ship back. When I sent it back and they recieved the wrong knife back the proper knife was in stock. it took them almost 2 weeks before I sent another email asking for a status. They said they were out of stock and gave me a refund. I ended up going through Howes (my normal shop) and paid an additional $10 roughly.
I am just wondering if you'll have to go through the same thing; I hope not, not a lot of fun.

I know my BRG zdp delica has fill skeletonized liners. Standard DF does not, but G-10 does.

I thought about picking up a ZDP DF and swapping the blades with my G-10, but I do not need a $140 DF and the vg-10 does just fine; especially on a small knife like that.

Good luck with your adventure.

I ordered from one of the knife shops mentioned here often. I received it for the price of the ZDP FRN model and now that I know the other models don't have liners I feel better about this knife. I have at least until Monday to decide.

Plenty of time to sleep on it; or tonight, drink on it :) . I personally love G-10, but would be nice to have the ZDP.

If you like it I would keep it at that price. Chances are it will eventually be phased out, the FRN ones should survive a long time in the lineup. My pawnshop crystal ball reading of course :) .

Lots of people love the DF in G-10. I prefer the FRN. FRN isn't as sexy as G-10 but it's darn near indestructible and much much lighter.

Can you tell I like the FRN Dragonfly better?

Anyway, there's no way to go wrong with either one.

The G10 version just feels so solid compared to FRN, great little big knife! Now G10 + ZDP would be the cats meow..

I have the Dragonfly 2 FRN VG10. Its razor sharp out of the box. For the average user I feel ZDP189 and G-10 are a waste of money if price concerns you.
