Is this a dealer exclusive? Cutleryshoppe the only one to have them? It looks really nice.

Thanks. I just placed my order. I needed cheering up when my Blue PM2

I think Jeff just kicked BBS A**. By speed I mean, probably not margin. Course a bird in hand and all that... Present value of the dollar being what it is I don't know why more vendors don't follow the model. I can't wait for mine. I wanted to get 2 but only got 1. Still I feel very very lucky to have the knife budget I do have. Now bring on the next mule. :) What is it where we can't just be happy with a knife for a while. It's always what's next. It is a sickness. Spyderholics anonymous anyone?

They started a "help me not buy any more Spydercos" support group a few years ago. The group got together and after a few "Hi, my name is "?" and I'm a Spydercoholic" confessions they all piled into their cars and went to the local knife store and cleaned them out. :D I think after computers became more and more popular in the home, that group started this forum. :D

So much for help from other knife people.

From what I heard from people who who Jeff personally, he is knifenut like us, BBS looks like is a dealer to make $$$. Dealers have to make $$ to support business and families, but operate at quite different profit margin.

What I like about CS is that you can call and actually speak with Jeff at almost any time during store hours. BBS does not provide this option, and contributes to their feeling more impersonal as a result. BBS also has minimal to no information on their site about most things, from products to "about us" type of info. I didn't even know the physical location of BBS until I just received my M390 Para 2.

An online vendor can work for me without a phone contact, but I feel a lot better when there is info about the vendor provided on the site, ala Tom Berry's site.

From what I have seen, most folks that get into this hobby develop favorite vendors based on relationships, service and price. BBS seems to lack on relationship and price in my opinion. They score points with me based on the odd exclusive sprint run that they have now and then, and I can't complain about the timeliness of shipping and notifications.

It's hard to tell about why BBS is in this business. The proprieter has obviously seen something about Spyderco that he/she likes. It may only be a side gig for someone that works a day job for all I know.

Jeff has told me personally that he loves knives, and that he is not in the business to make a boatload of cash. With BBS, one can only assume things because there just isn't a lot of info out there, and their pricing is higher, for the most part, compared to various other online dealers.

I realize that I have just hijacked this thread and will stop now.

The price went up to "compensate" for the free shipping using the "nutnfancy" free shipping, so relatively speaking the price is still the same as before ;)

Jack,

The price increased to it's current level after the first half of the run was sold.

The e-mail from CS (a portion of which is pasted below) stated they would increase more rapidly than it appears they have so far.
I started them out at 40% off, now they're at 35% off.
When the next hundred sell, they'll go to 30% off, and keep going up, until they're sold out.
It is just incredible to me that 75% of the run has been sold so quickly.

Maybe BBS will follow suit and lower their sprint prices so they'll start selling out too.

I ordered late last night and the price was $126.75, which I thought was great...I didn't know about the $117! Still a great deal and I like doing business with Jeff.

Still have not seen anything about the Brown Para2?

about BBS, I agree with the many comments. Maybe their prices are higher because they are in Cali which is one of the most expensive states. The sad part is we support their prices by continuing to buy from them. I also agree that it is nice to be able to find some of the older sprints, but their prices are only decnt when they are on sale. They are pretty quick to anser emails sent though. I sent them a couple of emails at nightand got a response by the next afternoon. I am guessin they just do it on the side. at their prices; theres no way they could pay the bills.

Crazy they only have 200 left  they might have to opt for a second run for all those that missed out. The only reason I know about it, is from this thread; otherwise I probably would have missed out too.

I did end up ordering another today with free ship code, but that was to help out a fellow member. He did not have the funds, but really wanted this knife. I do not mind helping others when I can. One day I will need something in return.
