Only one Spyderco
I couldn't have only one Spyderco but if forced to I'd make mine the Wegner designed Ocelot.....Superb construction..really cute and non threatening with the little paw prints and yet it's a really sturdy outdoors knife with a superb shape for hunting/ general outdoor use.
Folks hated on the prints, suggesting they were impossible to clean. I just don't see that as being a huge issue.

If you met Abby Normal when she was initially released, you are showing your age (yes, and mine). Isn't it amazing the things that have stuck in our minds over the years?racer88 wrote:I consider all of mine "users." Abby? Abby who? Abby Normal. :D

+1 It's not crazy to me. I feel the same way. I love all my Spydies, but sometimes I feel paralyzed when trying to decide what to carry and what to collect and not carry.StuntDouble wrote:As crazy as it sounds, I kind of envy the folks that are one-knife people. I used to be one of those people, and right now I'm on my way to seriously thinning out the collection. I may never end up being a 1 knife person again, but I'll definitely end up being a 10 knife person at the maximum :D
During my Spyderco addiction I gave about 10 Spydies away to friends and family. Most of them carry and use Spydies, but only one of these people bought more. I think most of the people, who use knives as tool, without addiction can live with one knife, just perfect.jackknifeh wrote:Does anyone have or know someone who has only one Spyderco and don't plan on getting another one?

All this relative to something. Two knives in the pocket for most of the people is abnormal, probably even one.jackknifeh wrote:That's the normal story. Well, 50 may be slightly abnormal :) .

50 is not bad. I saw people, buying 20 and more knives in a month. I can recall couple guys building huge collections within a year, and than selling it off. All depends on the depth of your pocket and level of addiction

I carried carbon steel, mostly Camillus Barlow knives for the time I was probably 8 untill 19 and joined the army.

It seems the majority of the people who have only one knife with no intentions of getting more are people who got a knife as a gift. Also, if they hadn't gotten one as a gift they might not have gotten one at all.
Last father's day I decided to get my Dad a Delica4. I ordered it and was having it shipped directly to him. I emailed him that a pocket knife was on the way. He replied back saying it was a good thing I emailed him because the very next day he was going to town and one of his stops was to buy a new good quality knife. He is the kind of guy to always have a pocket knife on him but not to buy 50 within a month's timeframe. That's how he raised me to be. He probably has close to 50 knives now but that is from buying over his 83 years (73 of which I'm sure he carried a knife). So, he is one of those who gets a knife and uses it for years before wanting another one. I had to explain the purpose of the hole and clip. He likes the hole but still uses two hands to open the knife. I doubt if he uses the clip.

The problem is that there are different knives for different occasions. For excample when i'm at home i use my spyderco khukuri for opening packages and food prep, like making a sandwich. If i'm dressed up nice i use my spyderco poliwog (you can't wear a military and a suit, that's not classy) and maybe a squeak would be more appropriate, if i'm on the streets and i don't feel safe i have my civilian or CRKT M16 13LE with me, If i'm in the woods or in nature i have my Fällkniven Njord and sometimes Böker turbine LEO damast special run with me, and so on...
I can't see myself having just one knife. And for some of my knives i even have back ups. I think i'm going to slow down a little and not buy a lot of knives anymore. If i see a model that i really love and can use, then maybe i will buy one more.

Yup, I could, that being my SS Cricket/SE :)
It's IMO the best EDC knife Spyderco ever made.
I have about 30+ Spydies and with the exeption of the knives that were gifted to me, I can get rid of them all this intant for every right price.
However, I will never part with my Cricket

Not a single knife guy, but I'm not far off either.
I have two that I rotate between, a rock lobster and a g10 dragonfly.
If the rock lobster were a little smaller, it would be my only knife. I use the dragonfly when the size becomes an issue. The dragonfly could take care of 90% of what I use a knife for, but I just prefer something a bit larger.

i actually started collecting benchmades but i always had a sour taste in my mouth after paying 300 + for a knife and it had the same steel and materials as my 20-50 dollar gerber and bucks. So I fondled a manix 2 at a gun shop and fell in love. before spyderco I'd buy an average knife for carry and collect my expensive ones and never use them, I wasn't to confident with the quality of the knives so i was scared to use them. With spyderco that all changed i use everyone i have with no worries wheither or not the knife can handle what i throw at it.
I've been bitten for about a year now, and I haven't been the same since...My name is Allen and I'm a spyder-holic
It's somewhat ironic that so many of the stories here are similar. My first real knife given to me by my dad was a small old timer w/2 blades. Still have it, though it's much worse for wear and neglect. As I got older he gave me a 2 bladed chipped bone tree brand (used) which I also still have. When I turned 21 he had matching Randall knives made for him, me, and my brothers with our names engraved/stamped in the blades. Still have that one almost new condition. Didn't aquire many knives other than fishing blades (mostly Forschener) for years. My brother gave me an old Delica and it was all downhill from there.
After my first couple purchases I was bitten bad. Almost embarassing to say how many Spydies I've bought in the past year and a half. :o Really regret missing out on the Para 2 w/S90v.
Oh well. I could never imagine having only 1 Spyderco. :spyder: Of the folks I know that own Spydies, I don't recall any that have only one. Most have 2 or 3 and a friend at work has a sizeable collect with some really nice knives. He wears his Twin Towers once a year to commemorate and remember those lost in this terrorist act. Hope all have a Happy, Healthy, Safe, and Prosperous New Year.

to tell you the truth, I hated knives before. At gun shows i was always like why are there all these dumb knife stands?? but after I got into survival/camping/bushcraft/self-reliance I bought nice fixed blades. I always heard hype about spyderco and the tenacious, but always hated it. I thought it looked dumb with the hole and it reminded me of an animal or something lol. So i said to **** with it, I'll get a tenacious to try out after hearing all the hype 24/7. got it and LOVED it right away! So I looked at a better steel and winded up ordering an Endura FFG the same day I received the tenacious :D And ever since, I've been obsessed and in love. That's when the spydie flu started :) BTW the spydie flu is REAL!!! Now its been about 2-3 months tops and I have 7 Spyderco's and a sharp maker! With one PM2 M390 on pre-order<3(Cannot wait for the invoice!!!) And I cannot stop or slow down!:/ I think I'll slow down a little bit after I get all the knives on my list such as the Super leaf, Gayle Bradley(buying after blue pm2), Manix xl, Military, Maybe Sage 3, just to name a few...there's more though, trust me
My most expensive is the Manix 2 M4 followed behind is the Sage 2 which I love! but I'm not sure it's for me
My FAVORITE is the Para Military 2!!! It's amazing and I wouldn't mind having a few of them!
And right behind that is the Manix 2 M4 (even though it came SUPER dull
) My sharpest is probably the Endura FFG Tied/POSSIBLY sharper than the PM2 :D The Endura is no joke and it was the BEST 47$ I've ever spent! It really is an AMAZING value!!! I LOVE SPYDERCO!! And I'll be loyal customer for LIFE! Currently I only buy Spyderco products lol :P They're just THAT amazing....seriously! And I regret not buying a Spyderco sooner! although I'd be poor haha and have a LOT of sprints. owell :o Sorry if I rambled guys, just wanted to tell ya a little about myself :P Moral of the story: You CAN'T have just 1 Spyderco, It's physically IMPOSSIBLE!!!
