SAGE 2 My first simpleton MOD

#1

Post by GotDogs »

Hey All,

No knives for Christmas for me ( that sux ). I have been just playing with the few I have. I tried something different here, I found getting a good handle on my Sage 2 required placing my middle and ring fingers on/in the pocket clip. Got a light wear mark under the pocket clip and it bothers me to no end. I took the smallest diameter shrink tubing that I had and fed it over the wire, applied a bit of heat ( Zippo ) and pictured is my result. In the end I now have a better purchase on my SAGE and will eliminate continued wear under the clip. I am thinking it's been done before, so I cant take the credit for it.

Looks nice. You'll have to let us know how it hold up to wear and tear after spending time in your pocket.

Clever, and so simple that I could do it. Thanks for sharing.

I think I'll do this to a Sage 2, if I end up with one.

Nice work, GotDogs!

Let us know how it works getting the knife in and out of your pocket. I assume the shrink wrap makes it harder to clip and unclip. Also interested in hearing about how it wears over time - but then again, it would be a cinch to replace, eh? :)

What was the ID on the tubing you used?

One thing I really like about this idea is that I can get black, clear or colors:

add-> Despite the picture, Amazon describes the tubing above as "black".

That is way cool. Again, let us know how it wears and carries over time. Thanks for sharing.

Very clean looking, and a great idea. I'm guess this would work with other flat clips as well. Might be a great way to darken the shiny clips that I have and add some gripiness.

Great job, looks really nice. If that heatshrink does not hold up, they may have better grades that will work better.theres only hundreds of different types of heatshrink

The package of Heatshrink tubing I have has an assortment of sizes. By eye my guess it's 12 / 14 ga. Me likes the colored ones. The largest in the package would easily cover a normal pocket clip and would look pretty cool and would certainly make the clip / knife less obvious in the pocket. Thanks for the complimants, the good thing is it's cheap and easily changed based on mood or wear. Please, if you do it to your knives show em. Thanks, John :spyder: :spyder: :spyder:

That's an awesome idea to use shrink wrap. I did something similar on a Sage1 but with paracord. The paracord definitely holds up. The best thing about this type of mod is it won't be scratching my car door or other random objects.

Here is a picture

Para cord is another option and a very cool idea especially with the different colors available. Thanks for the pics. Is the cord tucked in behind the clip, being held in place by the screw? John :spyder: :spyder: :spyder:

I also like the idea and PlastiDip is another option.

I love the stuff, especially the spray can version.

Look for it at Menards, Lowes, Ace Hardware, eBay, etc.

Around $6 a can and if you don't like it, it'll peel right off!

That's a pretty cool idea. I've noticed on my Caly 3 that the wire clip can flex side to side and has scratched the carbon fiber a little. Let us know how well that holds up.
