CS doesn't normally do preorders, but if I remember correctly, they had their exclusive orange Manix 2 for pre-order for a few weeks before it came out. I believe one reason why they don't do pre-orders is that they never know how many of sprint xxx they will receive, as they usually get less than they request due to demand from everyone else. In the case of a commissioned sprint, CS knows exactly how many they will be getting because the whole run is theirs (probably 600-800), so he can pre-sell without worrying about overselling and not being able to deliver.

You specifically mentioned KW and CS exclusives having the same steel but different handles, so this doesn't apply to the scenario you presented, as the blue Manix 2 was a normal sprint available to all dealers, not a KW exclusive. As for Jeff following the blue sprint with the same steel in his own sprint, IIRC, he said that FFG S30V was what his customers had been asking for, so that is why he chose that steel. Of course, his customers could be asking for the 204P also being used in the green sprint this time, but I highly doubt it.

Yes, I would think the brown is very close for the same reason you mentioned. I've also heard January for the blue, so it should be right around the corner. And maybe the orange too, as Jeff's last sprint wasn't up for pre-order very long before it came out. The green will probably be the last of the four sprints to get released, as it won't be available until mid-year.
