SHOT Show report
I visited the SHOT Show last week and what did I see at the Spyderco booth?
In the proto type box there was new and old and these I noted:
At The Ready - the final version ready for introduction later this year. We know this one with it's big blade and the titanium drilled grips. This will be a very very good but big EDC!
Chinook II - The revamped version with a better weight and improved handling. Not ready for introduction yet, but soon.
Maddox - final version of the special for the unabled with cocobolo handle and a very nifty kydex sheath with a steel bottom plate to keep it standing up-right and to be used one handed. It is obvious that this knife took a lot of thinking to make it work. A very special knife!! A first in the Industry from SPYDERCO!
KERAMBIT by Spyderco - Do you believe that? The first proto type was there. not to be photographed with out fear for your life! Will take some time before it will become a reality.
Kopa - a larger brother of the Kiwi. A gentlemen's knife with cocobolo and Micarta inlays. Very nice knife (sheeple proof)
Gunting II - A smaller version of the Gunting with a more curved grips and the same tactical advantages as the larger brother, was shown. Bram Frank was there on day 1 and it looked as if things were progressing well.
Persian - ED SCHEMPP - the wizzard - designed a fantastic Persian folder with a beautiful upswept blade. The final proto type was made by MOKI and had a backLock. This is a beatiful collaboration model and will (IMHO) be a big seller!!
DODO - in blue G-10 as we know it ready for production. Will be released this year.
SALT I - a possible follow-up Delica by in house design. The blade was designed along the lines of the D'Allara rescue but in Delica size and with modified grips. Serrated and Plain version were shown.
Dyad jr. and Dyad mini - the well known pattern with more retro feeling because of the use of jigged bone inlays.
TUSK - The well known nautical knife/tool from last year is still very well alive and still carries the Ball Lock feature and the most beautifull rope splitting SS tusk in the world! This tusk makes it a theatening tactical knife also. Don't look for this one to be released soon.
Kiwi variation - The small gentlemen's knife with a FRN handle. a very smooth and light knife in the traditional fashion.
News ready to be released!
Assist and Assist + - Big rescue knives for SAS people. They have large contoured handles with an incorporated whisstle, Cobrahood and the + model an extra cobalt glass breaker and a blunt blade. If you know something about knives, you will soon see that these knives are bound to become the new workhorses from Spyderco for the professional user.
SS Cricket - Long awaited and now ready! Extremely nice and flat. Now here is the basis for elaborate custom work by the vast embellishing comunity. Very nice and almost to nice to start using.
Native 3D - The best Native yet. Contoured fat grips and better control by new thumb ramp. VG-10 blade. Perfect!
Delica Carbon Fiber variation - IMHO Spyderco now produced the PREFECT CLASSIC!! New Clip design and VG-10. Get this one as soon it hits the shelves and tell you budddy only about it when you have secured your own!!
Finally short for their release are the new SS Jester and the new SS Kiwi models. Wait for those to be released soon.
With my limited luck in posting pictures on this forum, you'all have to bear with me 'til next week when I'm home again and can rely on some expert help from a good and trusted friend.
Ofcourse there were other knife companies at the SHOT SHOW and I have seen it all, but believe me Spyderco is and remaines the LEADER period!
What else did I see worth noticing?
BUCK - A very introduced a nice looking Tom Mayo collaboration, but ... take it in your hand and you feel too many sharp edge to handle the knife comfortably. Didn't Spyderco solved this problem 20 years ago?
Alpha Folders - Big and sturdy looking folding knives. Many customized models available but ... again, very ugly fat spacers at the pivot point ruining all sence of refinement. Resulting in crude knives. I can go on and on but I must admit that it would sound too much biased.
I make one exception for Al-Mar. A fine company that re-introduced some of their old paterns (Osprey and Hawk) that they became famous with. Lets hope that they will succeed with these very fine knives and they are worthy of our support.
Thanks for the attention and go look for all the news coming our way!

Carlos, being raised in Europe, I think in centimeters. I would say however, that the Persian has a blade as large (as long) as the Chinook, but not as stout or as heavy. The Persian is definately a grown up knife but carries very elegant lines. After meeting Mr. Schempp and talking to him at the SHOT Show, I believe that he did a great job at designing this knife. The knife that was the final proto type was done by MOKI-Japan and had steel bolsters with nice swinging lines and black Micarta scales. The whole package cried out quality to me. If you are in the market for a good but special EDC, wait for the Persian to hit the market at check it out. This knife can do it all. On another occasion I've mentioned that not all collaboration models did very well, I will make an exception for this model. Seeing how much potential this knife brings, it must become a good seller.
Carlos, waiting will not be in vain!

Oh yes, oh yes, oh yes. Just when I thought had forgotten about me . I've started saving for this one already. The Ed Schempp Persian is another one I'll be looking out for and I can't wait for the Tusk.
Thanks for the report Jurphaas, although I don't think my bank account will be as gratefull .
