Bought an old Police, could use some info.

Hi all,

I've just bought an old Police. Cleaned it and lubed it, I like it! It's quite big, but unlike my SS PE Endura 4, I can see myself carry this (the endura didnt fit as well as this one, and I like this in SE).

Anyway, it came in a (slightly squased) red box, without year or month markings. It doesnt have boyne dent (looks real good) and is made of G-2 steel.
Markings on the blade is police (not PIG, unfortunatly) and it has a lanyard hole.

Can anyone tell me when this blade was made, more or less?

I've bought it used but not abused. Serrations seem still fine (although I really should learn now to sharpen those), blade is a bit scratched up and so is the handle. Gives character!

Anyone?

Oh, and I will post pics, probably tomorrow.

And I could use some tips on how to test sharpnes of the serrations. I mean, I can test PE blades more easily (nail, or hair/paper, those kinda things).

Thanks!

This page should help you get a clue on the approximate age:

There are some details that are listed on the page that I didn't see you list, like how many mounting options you have.

Yeah, I think I nailed it down to the 92-94 era. Steel markings and all.
Only 1 mounting, the clip has the patent on it.

Strange thing though, I've played a bit with it and now, when I compare it with my Sage 1, I find the latter rather 'stubby'... oh dear...

Also, no jimping on the blade, too. Not sure if that was/is ever standard on the Police (apart from the 3), but this one doesnt have it.

It does have beveled edges on the handle.

I am quite happy with it. I cant stop playing with it, too. There something quite fascinating about it, and I also dont want to be on the recieving end if it if used as an impact tool... OUCH! :D
