Hi all. A few weeks ago I decided to update my EDC knive and, incidentally, found both the Spyderco brand and this forum.
Well, after reading many posts here I decided to buy my first Spyderco, it is an Ambitious. Although being an entry model to the brand I find it awesome. In fact I've never had got a knive as sharp as this one. I'm even wondering if I'm prepared for such a sharp knive, as mi left thumb gives evidence :o
This is a picture of both the Ambitious, the knive it substitutes (a classical design here in Spain which I abused for years) and the finger it bite when using it without the needed respect.
Is the Spider bite poisonous in any way? Now I feel more and more inclined to get another Spyder... a Chaparral is in focus.

Welcome Emece, you've come to a good place :) If you've been reading here you know that these products come with a certain addictive quality attached 
That's only because in most cases they are the best production knife around for the price :D Another major plus is that Spyderco is not a global conglomerate, rather a smaller company that partners with different knife makers around the world.
Right now there are 7 folders on my desk.........there are more in the drawer then there are the 7 fixed blades. I've cut down :rolleyes:

Hello and welcome. The Chaparral is a great knife. It is a bit slimmer than you may want but I don't know how you use your knives. The blade is thin but it is a great knife. I have it and a Sage1 which looks a lot like a Chaparral but is a little larger with a thicker blade. It also has a liner lock. I just mentioned the lock because it is different. I like the liner and back locks both.
What do you use your knife for most of the time. I mean is it for opening packages or chopping down trees? :) That's just one thing to think about when deciding what to get.

Don't feel too bad, though. I once had to get a few stitches due to an unfortunate encounter with my Harpy. It all happened so fast... :eek:

Welcome emece, I told the same advice to someone else recently, but either get friendly with your banker or run like ****. I am not sure what it is about the spyder venom, but it makes you do crazy things. It won't kill you, unless of course your wife gets a hold of your Visa statement. There is a whole world of Spyderco variations out there to visit, enjoy your journey.
Nowadays I do not use the knive in a hard way, mainly opening packages and peeling fruits. My interest in the Chaparral comes from its size (both it and the ambitious are in my "hot spot"), a higher end steel and also in the overall thickness (while maintaining the inner liners). But it is not the only one I have looked for, Caly3 & Native5 also look interesting to me.
Curiously, up to one month back I was not worried at all about the steel in my folding. Thanks to these forum I know there are different steels with different properties each. I have even bought a KME sharpener!

My interest in the Chaparral is due to its overall size (both Ambitious and Chaparral are in my "hot spot"), its thickness and also its higher end steel, but it is not the only Spyderco I like, Native and Caly3 are also nice.
Curiously, one month ago I was not worried at all about the steel in the blade of my knive, and now I interested in other Spydercos because of the steel... this is a product of reading this forum for weeks! I've even bought a sharpening set with five stones when, for years, I have used a single no-brand stone.

Welcome Aboard! Of all the knives you mentioned, the Caly3 is by far my favorite. Its slim, elegant, and has a great blade, , , Oh, and a wire clip. Perhaps the thing I like the most about this forum is the good discussions on different steels. Although some discussions get a bit 'into the weeds' I very much love the fact that there are those on here who know and appreciate the differences between steels. And also, what the Spyderco crew brings to the table in so many ways.
