the hardest thing you have cut with the SE?
What is the hardest most knife unfriendly thing you have cut with the spyderedge?

OK this doesn't sound impressive, but my lemon tree had a stray branch, fairly thick. I really should have used a saw, but I had my SE Native and my wife was taunting me, so after much "sawing" I got the branch removed. Touched up the edge on my sharpmaker and it still cuts like anything!

asphalt shingles. Gunked up the serrations and was not sharp when done. Few minutes on the sharpmaker 204 and it was sharp again. The blade is now scratched, but it wasn't one of my Q's <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
BTW it was a blue rescue with VG-10.

Pig's ear..... yep that's it.
At the time I was carrying a micarta Calypso Jr PE in one pocket and its big sister the Calypso full size SE in the other. Those pig ears are dry and smoked and have a hard glazed surface on them. I've got two small dogs that can only handle a half of one each. I grabbed for the Calypso Jr in my right pocket. That very sharp plainedge skipped, skidded and slid off that tough surface. I had to whack it to break through and then could barely push it through, cracking the brittle fibers as I went. I stopped and brought out the large Calypso with its toothy serrations and finished the cut with an easy sawing motion. Then I cut the ear into quarters testing the serrations on an unbroken hard surface. Those serrations were ideal for that type of slick surface, breakimg through and then sawing as you slice down.

Industrial vacuum hose. Very tough, hard rubber with a single stainless steel wire running throughout.
I just about had a heart attack when I found the wire running inside the rubber...wasn't aware of it. <b>BUT </b> , my Blue Rescue SE actually <i>cut </i> the wire on the first part of the hose where I had begun cutting!!! I didn't want to take a chance with the second part of the hose, so I used my Leatherman ST200 to cut the remaining part of the wire to finish the cut. Even though the wire had deformed the <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>Edge slightly, the VG10 STILL cuts like a champ. <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
My Blue Rescue needs a little TLC, so it will soon be taking a trip back to Spyderco for resharpening. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
