captnvegtble wrote:With all the new models and sprint runs, they must need more capacity at their plants. I can't imagine there not being a discontinued list this year. Actually, some of my favorite knives I've gotten when discontinued (Rock Salt, Aqua Salt, etc) so I always look forward to this list.
I'd like to see no discontinued list. If they don't have the manufacturing capabilities to make the new knives and the existing ones, maybe they could just put the ones that might be discontinued on hold. They could make more of models that they get feedback about people wanting at the end of next year. Just a thought from someone who knows nothing about why some models get discontinued. Last year the blue ZDP-189 Stretch was discontinued but it was just the blue color. The knife is still available in BRG.

It doesn't matter to me of course because a new year's resolution of mine is to not buy any more knives. I try not to make resolutions unless I plan on breaking them. :D

or, you can do this to one.

The work was done by zippoart and he takes commissions.

Here is his picture, way better than mine.

I purchased this on another knife forum, then 3 days later sold it for 50% more than I paid for it!
Shouldn't have sold it, but the MO is showing up, today, so too late to change my mind.

Well, as the Deacon mentioned in a previous post, it still might come out late November (which would be around now).

From another thread about the 2012 catalog:

What about a discontinued list? If there's a catalog, they must have a list of discontinued knives for next year, right?

Spyderco notifies their dealers of this list first.

I will say you you check out certain dealers, they have 2011 discontinued knives discounted. From that I think you get the list. ;)

Why so anxious about the discontinuted list being posted? Is it with the hope of scoring deals on those models afterward?

I normally shop from the CS. They really haven't had any sales and other than listing the Caspian Salt as being discontinued, nothing else has been marked. I also check KC and the only knife they've had on sale recently was the Jumpmaster, which I would be really interested in if it was being discontinued as it has been on my "to buy" list for a while, but haven't had the money to shell out. I also check Howes occasionally and their sale bin, but they occasionally have sales on knives - it's not clear if these are discontinued models.

I want to know if a knife (i.e. Jumpmaster) is being discontinued so I can buy it (hopefully at a reduced price) before they go away for good. Discontinued knives would take precedence over newer models which might be around for a while more.

I don't know about good deals but last year some people went ahead and got models that were being discontinued instead of something else to make sure they would have one. Once they are gone sometimes you end up paying a lot more for a knife if you buy later.

Just ordered the 92 mm Citadel...God I love living in a free state like Wyoming!

...or New Hampshire. Where did you order it from? Some sites make you show proof of military/police service right?

I hope we can get an official disco list. I want to know if I need to act now on some knives that I have been holding off on or if I still have some time.

I am really surprised that Bob Terzuola slipit is discontinued. Very nice knife. And IMHO the best looking slipit currently produced. May be I should grab one more ;)

With only 400 pieces run more than a year ago, dealers still have it :( . GPK has a nice price.

My top choices Natives5, Calys, C83 Persian

+1. It's been on my radar for quite some time, but I haven't ordered one yet. Guess I better get hustling while they're still available!

As was said, the CF Balance is still available with many dealers. I'd guess that listing it as disco'd simply indicates that once that particular dealers stock is gone, that's it.

I was fairly certain that the Rock Lobster would be on the hit list as well. I recently ordered one from Jeff and the date code on the box was 2009; shows how light the sales are for that model as well. It truly seems to be a love it or hate it knife. Personally, I dig the **** out of it.
