First Spyderco Knife

#1

Post by rondv »

Hi Folks
I made my first post today and now my first :spyder: knife arrived. I am really pleased with the fit, finish, feel, and looks of this knife. My sharpmaker also came today and I'm about to start sharpening some older knifes.

I may have to get a stretch one of these days. The BRG FRN is slick.

What do you mean "may"? You do have to get a stretch. Resistance is futile.

OP: nice knife. One of my favorites. The ZDP is great too.

Excellent choice for a first Spyderco (I really like that dark green) and I'm glad you picked up the sharpmaker, as many people tend to forget that a knife is only good if kept sharp. I've got the blue ZDP Stretch and think it's a fantastic knife with superb ergonomics. Make sure you stay on top of keeping it sharp, as ZDP gets fairly difficult to sharpen if you let if get dull.

Very nice, don't own a stretch yet, it's on my way too long list of must have knives though. Congrats!

I've heard the stretch is great, still looking for bad reviews, smart move getting the sharpmaker as well now your free to pick up any and every blade you want and keep them all sharp.
Don't let the tip roll off the stones or you blunt the end.

Welcome to the forums too!

Welcome aboard! A SM and a ZDP Stretch is a win-win for sure.

You know, I just got a Zdp Delica that has a similar look. Kind of a funk, not so much a patina, at least in my case.

Hi Guys,
this is my first post in this nice forum. My real name is Peter. I´m from Germany,
near the city of Hannover.
Last week i bought my first Spyderco, a Byrd-Robin SS serrated.
Its wonderfull sharp out of the box. I like this small little knife.
I thinks on christmas there will come my next Spydie, maybe a Meadowlark.
Bye, Peter (pgj)

Welcome, I might recommend a Persistence for a few bucks more, but the Meadowlark 2 is a fantastic knife as well.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Welcome rondv and pgj. There's lots of very knowledgeable and nice folks here :)

Second the opinion about keeping the ZDP Stretch sharp. ZDP can be quite challenging to sharpen.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Yes, now I must have a look at my money :) ...and my wife (the finance ministry :) )
I´m a fan of smaler knife and the Robin, Meadowlark, Raven are just right for me. But the Meadowlark is my next Spydie. I think, Santa Claus will bring it to me, or even earlyer. Can´t wait.................
To me:
I have two favourite kind of knifes:
First: (since the Robin) now Spyderco
Second: Victorinox
Bye, Peter (pgj)

p.s. sorry for my bad english

Welcome, rondv and pgj, enjoy your time here!

This a truly nice forum with lots of knowledgeable members, you can learn a lot here.

The SM and ZDP Stretch and the Robin are a good start on the road to the addiction. :D You may find ZDP tough to sharpen, initially. :)

Thanks for the welcome folks and hello Peter! Your English is fine and probably better than mine without spellcheck.

The SM works great, most all my knifes are very sharp now!

David I suppose that's just light refraction on the grind although some of it is more polished.
