EDC Lottery?

#1

Post by Zendemic »

Well for the past few months i've amassed enough knives that i often had a difficult time choosing which knife to EDC. The other day a perfect solution struck me, use a random number generator (random.org) to decide for me! I simply assigned each of my knives a number (in order as they're stored in my SpyderPack). So far I've carried my Milli and CF stretch which haven't seen any pocket time in way too long. I suggest you guys try it out especially if you guys suffer from EDC indecision (as i do) :P.

What a novel Idea...Something only Cluster Flux could think up...LOL, next time you should call it a Spyderco EDC Lottery....because I tried it today just for fun....My random number thingy didn't pick a single Spyderco to carry and I have like 424 of them lol....So basically I was walking around with 9 POS knives and a cigarette lighter with a Switchblade in it. One of the nine knives was a 1/2" blade slip joint that I have not carried since I'm like 4 years old, I really felt protected having that with me. Needless to say, I smoked a lot of Cigs today, more than usual because that lighter was the only thing I had to protect myself with!!!....Seems like when you have a whole mess load of knives my chances of getting a spyderco in the mix was something like the odds in the real lottery. NOT GONNA DO THAT AGAIN!.....Thank you Cluster for this brilliant idea....LoL....Oh...and If any of you others out there suffers like Cluster from " EDC Indecision" There is medication that the doctor can scribe for you....ask for it by name...It's called "Chosenyol"...Doc :p

Doc, you could use the real lottery numbers to pick your EDC. :)

Yesterday the numbers were: 7,11,18,25,26,35,37

But then you won't eventually realize some knives aren't ever carried. These get sold out of being responsible...

To which you buy more knives to neglect :p .

Another idea is to do like I do, I carry several knives at one. I do wear tactical pants with the normal 2 back and 2 front pockets, but also with the 2 extra front pockets a bit lower. Wrangler makes different color jeans that work fine for the office, unless you are a suit\tie offie and then I suggest that you quit.

For the knives, I have an "Office" set, a" home" set and a "work" set. This allows me to carry numerous knives in any given week. They don't all have to be big knives either. You can have a labdybug\kiwi\dfly etc in the mix for lighter use\splinter type work. I always have a Self defense knife that s strictly that, and EDC (normal use) a rough knife (rough work or loan knife) and some type of serrated blade. I know I know, but that's how I do it, not necessarily recommending to everyone, but it works for me.

Easy!

Divide your knives into 2 sets. Ensure that you have your "essential" options in one set & use the otehr set for your decorative / klingon death blades.

Then use the random number generator once for each set until you have all 10 EDCs for your day.

Admit it, you got just a little kick out of carrying the lighter :)

take a list of all your :spyder: knives and just count down the list.
7,11,18,25,26,35,37
==7th, 18th, 29th, 54th, 80th, 105th and 142nd out of those 420 spydies. (I think)

9 knives at a time??? Here's what I think you should do. Have a lottery to see which 9 you are going to carry. Then when you need a knife hold a second lottery to see which one you use. :D Wouldn't it be funny if you ended up only using one out of the unbelievable number you have? :D

I think Doc should use a random generator to generate 10 numbers for 10 knives from your EDC.. Then after, have pictures of all your EDC knives posted on a wall and throw your 10 generated knives into the wall. Which ever pictures your 10 knives are touching will be your EDC.

Talk about fun :D

From now on, Doc will be carrying a full set of butter knives. :)

I always lose at the lottery, does that mean I will lose at the EDC Lottery?

"Every Day Carry" (EDC) is a distinctly different term and definition from "The Random Knife I'm Carrying Today" (TRKICT). Just thought that I would bring attention to this fact...again. ;)

The concept of EDC is mainly for defense and emergency use in that you have the same tool, with the same locations, with the same functionality, with the same weight, etc. on your person as often as possible based upon your daily environment. This is so if you're in a stressful situation, you will instinctively be able to access the tool and use it as efficiently as possible under the circumstances. The idea of randomly swapping tools on a whim is precisely the opposite of what "EDC" tries to achieve.

It would be like issuing a police officer 30 different numbered items and randomly selecting 10 of them every morning as their tools of the day. If all ten of them are weapons and he has to write a citation...hopefully the person he's dealing with has something to write with that they're willing to let the officer use.
