Superleaf or Manix2 ?

#1

Post by benben »

Hello
New member here, i have 3 spydercos, a Cricket, Wegner Jr, and a older
Para Military. Hopefully in the next week or two i'm going to order 2 new ones.
I am definitely going to order a foliage green Dragonfly g-10 but can't decide
if i want a Superleaf or Manix 2. I love the compression lock on my Para and
don't really know anything about the ball bearing lock. The dimensions on both
knives are pretty much the same so thats not an issue. Maybe someone here
can explain the difference between VG-10 and 154CM steel, i assume (and i
could very well be wrong) that when you get to this caliber of knife that all
the blade materials would be very good. Question is between the Superleaf
and the Manix which one would you buy ? Or is there another model around
the size of these two that i'm missing and should take a look at.
Sorry so long winded, thanks in advance.

Superleaf +1

Compression lock and Full Flat Ground blade (new blue Lightweight Manix have FFG too, but Lightweight Manix... not true Manix....it's feel like china-kid toy-copy Manix as for me)

What do you want the knife to do?

Manix is a better slicer, but the Superleaf is tougher knife.

Everything.....and i'm sure both will do whatever i ask within reason. I'm really
just wanting to purchase a new knife and it came down to those two. Will
probably be carried several times a week.

I don't own the Superleaf, so take it with a grain of salt. I own and love the Manix 2. It's a fun knife to handle. The ergonomics are impeccable. And the BBL lock is fun to play with. I'm sort of uncertain on the "hard use" acceptability of this knife, but this isn't much of a real life concern as I own and use fixed blade knives for any really "hard" use. The main criticism I have of the Manix 2 for daily carry is it's about an ounce or so heavier than I prefer to carry in pocket. I've been carrying it in my briefcase/EDC bag mostly, and sometimes in pocket. Now that the weather is colder, it will find a spot in my coat pocket, I think.

I happened to find the SE version for about 20% less than the PE version. I'm glad I got the SE, as that blade is a monster and I already have plenty of PE knives.

I like the Superleaf's handle and locking system more. Not better, just ideal for my hand.

The Manix2 is a great value and available in many different options.

I own both knives and I do not have a complaint of either one. I would say if money is an issue, go for the Manix2, if not, the Superleaf. Actually you should just buy them both because you'll eventually do that anyway! :D

Thanks everyone......never considered the Gayle Bradley. Spyderkoholic, you
are probably right about buying both but as i said before i am definitely getting
the Dragonfly G10 first and a larger knife second. As a whole it looks like
more prefer the Manix. I'm sure i cant go wrong either way ! Going to take
another look at the GB. Keep those opinions coming as i know everyone
loves these "which one" threads.

I have both and I much prefer the Superleaf. The compression lock is one of my very favorites. The blade is a whole lot of FFG goodness. The handle is very comfortable in my hand. The Superleaf is indeed Super!

You should! By the sounds of it, you want a tank of a knife. The GB fits this better then my Manix 2 imho.

I own, and use both. It's a hard choice for sure; but one that you really can't go wrong with. If they were both 154CM, I'd say Superleaf since 154 is such a great steel (not the VG-10 isn't, , ,I just much prefer 154CM). Since that isn't the case, I'd lean ever so slightly towards the Manix, but if I keep thinking about it I'd be saying the Superleaf, and then change my mind again back to Manix, etc, etc.

That said, I'd agree that a GB would trump both a Manix2 and Superleaf.
