handle thickness
is it really a big deal to you if you carry it in your front pocket? I carry a delica and love it but is there a big difference in feel between that and a sage or say a stretch/para 2 and a caly 3.5 as far as thickness goes?
I personally don't think there is a difference in feel, at least in jeans, of the knives you mentioned. I usually carry a para 2 or delica & don't feel a difference because both knives are unnoticeable. My Emerson Traveler (smallest knife they make) is like 1/2 an inch wide & Spydercos feel like nothing compared to that.

I wear blue jeans and for me there is a big difference. I tried a Caly 3.5, Para 2, and Sage 1 and I sold the Para 2 and Sage 1 because their handles were way too thick. The Caly 3.5 is completely unnoticeable.
It probably depends on the fit of your pants. Baggy pants you can carry just about anything.

Like weight, it's pretty much an individual thing. Some folks will notice a few hundredths of an inch difference, others will be equally comfortable with a Chaparral and a Native III. Circumstances can also play a role. Some will need, or feel they need, a knife that's hard to detect in their pocket.

There is also a difference to me in what I am wearing. Knives feel bigger in "office attire", or in shorts in the summer. However, when I am home working around the house or farm, I can pile knives, magazines, plyers, flashlight, batteries, Ball peen hammer, toenail clippers, piece of toast or whatever, and it doesn't seem to bother me.
I personally think, that the difference between a Stretch 2 and a Delica 4 can be clearly felt. 0.453" to 0.386"
The Sage I is with 0.433" somewhere in between.
Sorry, I don't have a Caly 3.5, only a Caly 3 and a few G-10 UKPKs, which are roughly in the area of your Delica.
BTW: I've measured the handle thickness of my complete small collection. So, if you're want more information: http://araneomorphae.de

Carrying a knife clipped in your front pocket is different for each person and more importantly, what that person gets used too. When I got my Michael Walker (small knife) I remember thinking it was "in the way" when I tried to get change or something out of the pocket. Since that day I have "gotten used to" a knife always being there so even larger ones don't bother me. Now, it's more like if I don't feel a knife there I think "oh no, I lost it". So, if a particular knife feels uncomfortable but you want to carry it there just give it some time for you to become accustomed to it. If you don't figure something else out. I had to with the Manix2. It's just too big for my front pocket. I mean the measurement from handle back to blade spine when closed. So, I carry it in a sheath or my back right pocket. At the moment I have the clip off and only carry it in a sheath. And, I like the back right pocket anyway. Frees up the front pockets completely. I also have small nylon belt pouches for 3" blade size knives. They are very convenient if they are appropriate for the type of dress.
There are a few ways to carry a pocket knife. Let's not forget the tried and proven method of letting it swim in the bottom of a pocket. :) I did that for many years and like I said even the MW clipped in my pocket felt out of place at first. I didn't care for clips at all at first but have gotten used to them. Kind of like the person you married. Did I say that out loud?

Too much handle bothers me when it interferes with using the pocket. I used to think it was just the handle thickness that bothered me, but with time I noticed that it was not always the bigger handle, but the shape of the handle near the pocket clip, as pointed edges or jimping would catch on my hand when using the pocket. That is why I typically carry knives tip up, because the end of the handle is typically smooth and rounded so my hand does not get caught on my knife when using the pocket.
The important thing was that I had an onion tied to my belt, which was the style at the time. You couldn't get white onions, because of the war. The only thing you could get was those big yellow ones...
I notice a difference depending on what I choose to carry. I EDC an Endura but when I go hunting I often switch it out to a Ritter RSK MK1 and getting to something in the bottom of that pocket can be a chore while with the Endura its not too difficult. This is kind of an extreme difference but a good example I think.
I haven't carried my Stretch enough to notice but the Para 2 that I had was a bit more noticable than the Endura.

Say what out loud, I didn't hear anything. :rolleyes:jackknifeh wrote: There are a few ways to carry a pocket knife.
