Although I don't drink nearly as much as I did years ago, I still like to have a few on the weekends. I've always been partial to Scotch and finally tried The Famous Grouse.

It's a brand that has been around forever but I had never given it a try. Decent enough, but nothing very special. It's a blend but does have something of a single malt smokiness behind it. Sort of like lacking any real identity which I think is the problem I'm having with it.

I'll stick with Laphroig when the Scotch bug bites.

I have had differing favorite shots over time. I would still enjoy a nice well-aged bourbon, or irish or scotch whiskey. I used to have shots of Bacardi 151 at one of my favorite places - goldschlager at some others, jameson's at average irish places, tequila at mexican places, rum or rum-based drinks at Caribbean or S. American places.. I don't drink like I used to - more likely I might have a shot of something simple or a long island iced tea, or occasionally at a nice sunday brunch I'll do mimosas or bloody mary's (I think the good dr. thompson was right about bloody mary's at breakfast).

LAPHROAIG. Still have some 15, but I like the 10 better.

Talisker is a close second.

Needless to say, I don't "do shots."

I don't do shots (anymore). If you shoot up, it means two things IMHO: one; you don't like the taste or two you can't stand the alcohol. Sip and enjoy taste and flavors, that hard stuff kills quickly! I like a beer, preferably a blond Belgium-one like Leffe or Affligem, and sometimes a single malt Scotch, Islay if available. ;)

Proost, forumites!

Never did shots. Rarely drink hard liquor at all. Bought a fifth of gin when I got the urge for a gin and tonic shortly after moving into my apartment. Eleven years later, poured the remaining 3/4 of the bottle down the drain while cleaning out the refrigerator prior to moving out. Do enjoy beer and I almost always have a bottle of it with dinner. Try to keep a few different ones in the fridge, right now there are a few bottles each of Spaten Optimator, Magic Hat #9, Sam Adams Octoberfest, Smithwick's Ale, and Leinenkugel's Sunset Wheat in there, plus a bottle of Stone's Arrogant Bastard.

Moonshine from trusted & skilled friend served room temperature in a mason jar, if available (and, unfortunately, it isn't in this neck of the woods), and Glenlivet otherwise.

I was introduced to single malt strong drink by a mountain climbing partner Scotsman who claimed that the best of this sort was small batch and didn't make it off the island due to resident enthusiasts. I believe that I could enjoy a tour there based upon a search for the unexported stuff.

That being said I can't hold my liquor. Never could. Maybe tomorrow...

A man of fine tastes. Magic Hat has an IPA you'd probably enjoy as well, but the name escapes me.

While I do love exploring pricey microbrews, I always have this in the fridge;

I don't do shots of anything. I do enjoy sipping good tequila's or an occasional good rum at the right temperature. Rarely through the week and occasionally on a Friday evening or Saturday. Fortunately have some really fine ones stashed. For beer I really enjoy the Julius Echter light wheat in a glass at the right temp. When it's hot out and I'm working in the yard or on cars just gimme a cold beer.

The other night I laid sleeping
And I woke from a terrible dream
So I caught up my pal Jack Daniel's
And his partner Jimmy Beam
And we drank alone, yeah
With nobody else
Yeah, you know when I drink alone
I prefer to be by myself

Paul -- nice choice on the Spaten Optimator.

I'm a pretty serious beer snob, and used to make my own -- including enamel-seering IPAs and gruits that you can't even imagine.

Recent favorite commercial beers include:

Bridgeport Hop Czar (best "imperial IPA?")
Alaskan Baltic Porter (no longer made -- quite unfortunate, as this is my all time favorite)
Alaskan Perseverance Ale: Russian Imperial Stout with Birch and Fireweed Syrups
Full Sail Keelhauler Scottish Ale
Deschutes Hop Henge
Lagunitas Hop Stoopid
Alaskan Smoked Porter
Obsidian Stout (best "regular" stout of any brand??)
MacTarnahan's Goose Bump Imperial Stout
Old Rasputin
Alaskan Winter Ale (spruce tip gruit)
Spaten Optimator (a go to favorite!)
Full Sail Old Boardhead
Deschutes The Dissident
pretty much any lambic or flemish sour brown
Alaskan IPA (not that original -- and not the greatest IPA -- but I am really keen on the unique flavor. it is something special to me.)
Pike Brewing Tandem Double Ale

Made some great beers of my own, including a red huckleberry lambic, salmonberry stout, blistering 141 IBU IPA with sarsparilla, various mindbending IPA/gruit hybrids, baltic porter ale, a scotch ale with heather, black IPA (IPA / stout hybrid)...
