Caly 3 CF back from vacation / re-appreciation

#1

Post by Muad'Dib »

So, I just got my Caly 3 CF back after a 6 month visit to a friends place. I actually forgot how perfect this knife is. I had thought that my Caly 3.5 SB could hold it's place in my heart, but it just isn't the same. The Caly 3 has the perfect EDC blade length, and the CF scales feel wonderful in my hands. I really hope that someday there will be a 3.5 sprint with smooth CF scales. I might have to get another Caly 3 CF as a safe queen. And, of course, I'm waiting with bated breath for the Caly 3 sprint run that has been discussed elsewhere. Anyways, I'm just happy my precious is back, and that I can re-appreciate its perfection.

Note: Now that I can compare the 3 and 3.5 side by side, it's pretty shocking how much more blade they fit in the 3.5 with such a similar handle size.

The CF Caly 3 sure is a great knife. Blade shape, steel, scales, everything.

Surely one of those that you keep coming back to!

My Caly 3 CF sees 95% of my possible pocket time. I work in an office and sometimes the warehouse, and the knife handles pretty much everything I throw at it, keeping sharp for a long time while doing it. Occasionally want something a bit bigger and sturdier with partial serrations (an old Benchmade 710PS {4" blade} for now, anybody have Spydie equivalent suggestions ??) and a Mark Laramie damascus Barlow for dress up. But the CF Caly 3 is as close to a perfect knife for me as I've ever had, and that's 15 years of Spydie carrying. GREAT knife! :D :D :D

The Caly 3 CF was my first Spydie. It was what got me "addicted" and has led to 50 more Spydies in the last year and a half. **** you, Caly 3!!!

I agree, it's a darned-near perfect EDC knife.

Caly 3 CF is good... I've carried mine often and love the ZDP189 but the 3.5 in Super Blue had ousted the 3CF for me. I love the cutting ability of the carbon steel and the ease of sharpening. The patina is the icing on the cake. The 3.5 is so similar in pocket to a 3... When are we getting a Caly 3.5 CF?!
Too many Spydies to list!

Gonna get my Caly 3 ZDP out right now and give it some affection. Hope it's not feeling lost for luv. My Para 2 and Delica have been getting more attention lately.

It's a marvel, it's a masterpiece, it's a thing of beauty....my Caly3 ZDP. The positive lock-up, the shimmering steel, the razors edge......oops off to the doctor :D just kidding. ;)

It's a great knife, I have a spare one that lives in our kitchen drawer. It's used for all sorts of messy utility jobs by my wife and anyone else who happens to look for a knife in my house. It rarely gets the maintenance it deserves. Still, once the glue gunk etc... is cleaned off, a little oil, some sharpening and a bit of polish on the blade and it's good as new. Great design.

This is the most "classic" knife design in the Spyderco lineup, in my opinion. It feels like a knife my great grandfather would have thoroughly appreciated The fit and finish are extraordinary, the lockup is decisive and solid. 'Tis a thing of beauty.

It looks like I am in minority, at least in this thread. I have CF Caly3, but never carried or cared too much. G10 Caly3 was my EDC since they came out and until the day when Caly3.5 came out. I never cared about laminated blade or CF and will take VG10 Caly3.5 over CF Caly3 any time. For me VG10 Caly3.5 just near perfect EDC.
