I've read enough about CPM-10V that my interest is piqued. I would love to have a chance to try it out. I also voted Bohler s790 just because I've never run across this one before.

Sleipner. Not sure about the spelling. But I see it in some Lion Steel stuff. Looks interesting.

The last Mule I bought was a CPM-M4 Mule and I loved it. I'd love to grab up another one and then have someone make handles for me again.

S110V sounds fantastic to me. :)

I just found out about these, Im really curious. A ton of vanadium, almost no carbon. Any one have info on these steels? Id love to know the pros and cons, and ideal uses for it! New steel excites me.

I voted 110V. Kershaw tried to offer this steel in a limited run but I feel their heat treat fell short I would like to try it with a spyderco heat treat. Does crucible even offer REX steels anymore?

Would like to see a couple of common carbon steels like 1095 and A1 to have the :spyder: treatment done to the blades and compare with other older tool steel implements I use.

the only knife that i know of that uses either is the kershaw tilt. you can see various edge retention tests on it. ankerson has one on bladeforums.

so far i like the steel. i think its right up spyderco's alley.

That's a good idea. As much as I love the new "super-steels" I'd take at least one in 1095. That's a classic steel if there ever was one.

DCDesigns wrote:Im pretty sure thats not going to happen. DLC is most likely out for mules. As somone who makes their own scales, I can tell you this would create a big problem if the blade were dlc'd prior to flushing up the scales. Besides S110v is already so expensive, any added costs might make it not worth making for spyderco.
Do you know how much extra for DLC coating would add to the cost? I thought we are talking about experimenting new "steels" for the fun of it. Hard coating on hard steel is fun to try. May not be too practical in the long run, however.

I do not understand what do you mean by "flushing up" the scales. I have done four DLC coated MTs and did not seem to have any problems with scales I made myself.

I voted for the S110V, although, I would much rather see that steel used in a Manix2, Para2, or Military.

- no mule has been coated yet, and probably wont be since they are supposed to be exactly the same other than steel. Its just not likely to happen. Most knives are kicked up another 10 bucks or so for the DLC version. The s110v mule will probably be the most expensive yet, costing more that the COs at 85+.

- how did you make your scales fit 100% flush with your handle without scratching off the DLC? Some steel stock has to be removed in my experience. Thats what I mean from "flushing up scales" - making them fit flush. Did you DLC them after the scales were built? Thats the only way you could do it without scratching the coat.

Any pictures for proof? Id like to see a DLC'd mule!

Yeah, I don't think a stainless mule is one they'll start coating on either. I do love DLC though.
