Perfect EDC??

#1

Post by razorback1595 »

2 weeks ago i got my caly3.5 SB and i'm lovin it. A knife never survives a week in my pockets because i switch them this much. But my caly has been with me since i had it.

The bladelenght is spot on for my use. And don't get me started on the ergonomics. Without using the choil it is comfortable but when using the choil this is the best feeling knife i own.

In my use the only bad thing i can say is that i'm not allowed to carry it in school wich has nothing to do with this excellent knife.

But i'm superhappy that it's the SB version. The superblue steel patinas superquick and i love the used look. I've also just sharpened this one 1 time. It was decently sharp when i decided to strop it (5 min ago) my hair whittling edge came back on just some strops. I'm verry impressed and i hope to see more of this steel ;)

Also the grey g10 gets dirty quickly but thats a reason for me to even like it more. And as with the super blue i'd like to see more grey.

For me this is my ultimate edc knife. It's classy, ergonomic, great looking, great steel great everything. This one will not leave my pocket easely. For anyone who needs a nice edc i'd suggest a caly3.5 doesnt have to be the SuperBlue model since the knife is übernice :D

I am about 50% with you. IMHO Caly3.5 is near perfect EDC, it doesn't leave my pocket from Monday to Friday for more than a year, but I strongly prefer stainless and very happy with VG10, black G10 as well.

I have two Caly 3.5s and both are lovely, although I've had better lockups. Perfect EDC is very personal; a person can only speak for himself. For me the Caly 3.5 is just a half inch too long so that I'm always aware of it in my pocket. I like the Caly 3 personally. Trying the Dialex but I suspect it won't replace the Caly3 in the long run. The Caly Jr is ideal if you're carrying in a bag or purse or unclipped; it's so light it just disappears. But it could use the improvement of the deep carry clip.

I like every thing I've owned up till now in the "Calypso" line of Spyderco models. I still think the Caly Jr. should be one folder that they should consider using for many types of different blade steel like the Mule is being used for now.

I EDCed my Caly Jr. ZDP-189 burgundy blade for almost 4 years with superb performance.

However I don't deem it to be the absolute perfect EDC. That distinction goes to the C-44 Dyad>> case closed

I've never owned a knife that I enjoy EDCing better than the C-44. There is just hardly no cutting job that model can't do.

What exactly do you cut with your blades on a daily basis. Personally, the bigger the better ...just cause.

I'm with you except for 1/2" of blade length--here in S. CA (for me at least, given local knife restrictions) the original Caly 3 is the perfect EDC. I have the G-10 in PE and SE as well as the CF. All are superb--both in the hand and in the pocket.

I don't have a Caly 3.5 SB *yet* :D It looks like a great knife.

I do have a Caly3 G10 and it would be my EDC if it wasn't for my Sage1 that won't give up its spot on my pocket.

for me it is true to some extend. I carried Caly3 for about four years and always wanted blade to be a little bigger, so when Caly3.5 came out I switched right away and enjoying this knife every time I use it. But with all respect to Military I am finding it to be too big for my taste. 3.5" blade length is perfect for me. Still love quite a few 3" blades. And consider Caly3 and FFG Natives to be great EDC.

I cut envelopes, open boxes, cut an occasionsl small tree branch, small food cuts. Then there are other things just as they come along. The best way to find out what you cut is to NOT carry a knife. Then you'll notice and remember what you would have used a knife for. Most of the time we use knives I think we do it almost without realizing how often they get used.

I don't have any Caly knives but my size preference is about the same. I would say my Sage1 and GB are my perfect EDC. I also carry the Chaparral and GB. I took the clip off the Chaparral and it is in the bottom of my pocket.

Slash, I disagree with half of your last statement and agree with the other half. The bigger the better I don't necessarilly agree with. "Just cause" I'd definately agree with. I love that reason for doing about anything. :D
