I've gotten behind and hadn't ordered one yet. I pulled up the forums before going to order one and found this. I guess I'll be waiting until they're offered again.

Thanks to everyone at Spyderco for making this project happen and above all, for bring honest and forthcoming with all your customers.

Thank you Sal for standing behind your products ;)

Should we just ship them back to the postal mail address:

Spyderco Inc.
820 Spyderco Way
Golden, CO 80403-8053

Do we need to send back the paperwork with the original order? Or should we wait for a recall notice?

I guess it was good I was busy with work beginning of this week. I was going to put my order in but got lazy after work. Was going to do it this morning then I saw this thread. I'll be eagerly awaiting the rerelease.

I'm just wondering if because it's a recall that Spyderco will contact the buyers with what to do rather than doing in on our own.

Glad I have been too busy with things to do anything other than form a Kydex sheath for mine.

Its to bad they are having to recall all of them. I was getting ready to send mine back in next week to have the heat treat tested as I had already talked to them about my MT12 earlier in the week. Its nice to see a company do the right thing.

Hi Mike, WQuiles,

Any way to get them to us that is convnient for you.

NJewell,

I haven't decided how I'm going to do this yet. First problem is to get them back so customers are not stuck with an inferior product.

Xavierdoc,

Sorry 'bout that. Don't want you to lose your cool handle.

I'd like to thank those that let us know early on to give us an opportunity for rapid respnse.

Thank you. I am sending them back via USPS, and on the address field I am using:

SPYDERCO INC
MULE12 RE-HEAT
820 SPYDERCO WAY
GOLDEN CO 80403-8053

That way the employee receiving the package can have an idea of what is inside.

I have two of them and another that is supposed to be in the mail. I guess I need to send them all back. I am glad I did not start on the handles as they were are all gifts for my youtube knife friends and are going as far away as New Zealand. Do we just ship them back to Spyderco and how long to you anticipate that it will take to turn them around?

Hi Bruce,

Glad we were able to react quickly. I would guess a month or so. Have to pull them all together, heat treat, clean up, engrave, sharpen, package.

It's not a problem- G10 is pretty forgiving and I think I'l be able to re-use the scales. It's not like they were my best mammoth ivory!

Sal,

The way the problem is handled, I will continue buying future MTs. I know you will take care us. I own 18 or 19 MTs so far, only thing that would make me slowing down is my thin purse.

I can see in my head how this went down last week: Sal went to the back and asked Fred "What formula did you use to heat treat those MT12s" and Fred said, "I haven't gotten to those yet, why?" or he said "Me? I thought you were going to harden them". or "that was earth day, we had to have the furnaces off for an hour"

I don't know why, but I always have to imagine those things.

(I got 3 by the way)

Is there going to be a marking or perhaps engraving to indicate that the new Cru ware mules have been heat treated properly? If not, it could represent a potential problem on the second hand market.

When guns are recalled, and fixed, usually a marking is added as a "proof of functionality." and as a way to tell the difference between guns that have and have not been repaired...

Just something spyderco might want to consider given this unfortunate happening. My 2 cents! -DC

Hi DCD,

Thanx for the input. We know how many went out. First we'll see if we can get them all back. Mule Teams are sold direct so it's not a big number.

Thanks Sal! If you can get em all back, then that would be great, no problems!

I have seen a couple for sale on Ebay though, and Im pretty sure at least a few will escape the recall. A single letter "R" stamped somewhere on the tang would really put my mind at ease if I were to buy a re-released CruWare mule.

Thanks for your reply, I look forward to seeing how this is taken care of. Im a HUGE mule team fan, I hope it goes on for years! Not being able to buy the MT12, just makes me want to go back and pick up the ones I dont have!
