Side to side movement on DLC Para2

#1

Post by Roundabout136 »

No matter how many times I try to get rid of it, there's a hair of side to side play in my Paramilitary 2. Tightening it until the point of no movement creates a very hard opening with one hand, using the spyder hole or the compression lock to swing the blade out.

Any remedies to cure this without actually sending it in? If I press against the pivot with my two fingers the movement goes away.

Could this be because of the DLC coating on my blade causing a rougher surface in contact between the bushings? The low friction action of a non coated blade must be smoother?

And yes, knife is clean and lubed properly.

With mine, the only way i could get my blade to drop closed freely when i press the lock was to have a tiny tiny bit of side to side play. If i tighten it enough to eliminate it, the blade isn't as loose as i like it.

That's exactly how I've got mine setup. Does yours have the DLC coating?

This is typical of all P2's as far as I know, if you want a gravity drop close you gotta greatly reduce friction, and the only way to do that is to give it some space. I don't think it's possible to have the best of both worlds, in any knife. It's a trade-off you need to decide on, that's why they are making most knives adjustable nowadays.

Nope, mine's just a standard digicam. I think as mentioned that's just the nature of the knife. I think the only way you'd get both is with a different style bushing system like a bearing system or something. It isn't enough play to notice when using it so i try to ignore it.

My dlc para2 has no blade play what so ever and still opens and closes smooth as butter.

that video is right on.

i had small play in both my DLC camo para 2 and my greyg10 para 2 and sanded down the bushing area and now it is MUCH better, although not completely eliminated (i am extremely picky however)

Turns out the clip hole lip theory holds water. See my pics/post in the end of this thread
