I have held the Orange Dodo!!!

#1

Post by bammann45 »

I went to the USN Network gathering in Las Vegas this past week. I had the pleasure to meet Eric Glesser at the Spyderco table. Amongst the prototypes, future releases and other goodies was a shiny new Orange Dodo. The run will be limited to 1000 pieces -- I am not sure when they are coming out.

The LionSpy is quite the knife -- definitely going to need one when it comes out. Having held it and the original, I actually think I prefer the Spyderco rendition.

Gayle Bradley has some great new stuff in the works....

The Tuff won't be out until next year -- the scale texture will be changing as well. They didn't have one on hand to look at.

The mega persian concept was amusing -- a huge blade.

I also got to handle a variety of the other up and comings... The show knife was a black and green H1 catcherman -- I didn't pick one up but it was pretty sweet.

I wish I could've taken pictures :)

I hope it's half and half. I'd love to have one of each.

I didn't know the Dodo was making a comeback! What's the steel?

I bought a black SE Dodo quite a while after it was discontinued and the lock seems to be defective. I never bothered to send it in since the model was already discontinued and because it was really just a collector piece to me. (I know it's not real popular among a lot of Spyderco fans to have "safe queens", but I have a tough time using more expensive AND discontinued models. :) )

Anyway, long story short, I might be interested in this one as a user. :D I love the reverse S blade shape.

I sure hope that they offer them in PE & SE. Also what blade steel were they made with?

It's gonna be great to see the Dodo again back in action

I hope it's something like M-4 or S90V maybe

You can't display a toad in a fine restaurant like this! Why, the good folks here would go right off the feed!

I'm really looking forward to this sprint, since I have yet to find a good deal on an original.

Can you elaborate on the mega persians blade length? Give us a rough estimate. I was thinking S90V for the dodo too jd. I would kill for some SE S90V. It has to be possible. It has to be done.

I'm eager to see the new Gayle Bradley designs. I'm curious to see what steels will be used.

Was no bolsters, ffg - but I believe it was a concept model -- not a proto -- so I imagine it could change. The blade length was about 5 inches or a bit more.

There was also another concept model based on the Police by a German policemen - it was police sized with a slightly curved handle and recurved blade -- was intended to be a German police knife.

I don't know what steel the Dodo was -- I forgot to look :) I would guess S30V.

There were also two Caly Jr concept models -- one with woven carbon fiber scales and the other with rounded blue and white micarta -- I really liked the micarta model. Eric was soliciting opinions as to which was the preferred material -- I liked the micarta best as it was a real departure from the usual.
