I haven't seen any Spydercos like this...Fake?

A place to list and reference all Spyderco counterfeits, clones, and replicas that are found. Anything that isn't a legitimate Spyderco fits in this area.

It seems like too many things are "off" about this knife.

Most definitely a fake, but at least an easy one to spot.

FWIW, when it comes to knives, I don't believe there's a single eBay seller in China or Hong Kong offering anything but counterfeits or fakes. Either of those locations alone should be a big red flag (no pun intended).

And, yes, I know Hong Kong belongs to China now, but at least some sellers do list themselves that way.

Total fake. Spyderco name and logo slapped on a mall ninja special.
I don't believe in safe queens, only in pre-need replacements.

Two days later and the auction (Buy it Now) is still up and running.

Same seller offers a Gerber knife at a Buy It Now price of $8.99 with free shipping. I would doubt that knife's authenticity also.

My message to this seller:

"What you are selling is a counterfeit Spyderco knife. You have been reported to both ebay and the rightful owners of the international copyrights that you are infringing. Please remove this item if you do not want legal ramifications to follow."

If enough people report this guy, he will probably loose his ability to sell.

SO SIGN IN AND REPORT THIS ITEM - Located on the right side of the page under the seller's info box.

feel free to report the fake KARSHAW (how he spells Kershaw) as well.

But with the Chinese sellers it's kind of hard to stop them, not that ebay does anyway. They will just keep popping up under another name like they always do unfortunately.

It is difficult to get rid of these criminals.
A Spyderco rep must contact ebay.

I have been hunting fake Extrema Ratios and working with E.R. out of Italy to do it.
I spot them, I forward links and pics to a guy with Extrema Ratio in Italy and he confirms that they are fakes and formally complains to ebay. Even then ebay doesn't always take them down. They just want the money.

If 1000 of us wrote ebay and said we wouldn't buy anything at all on the bay until they did something about the counterfeiters; and actually did it maybe that would get their attention.

First knife is a G Sakai Hotaru (aka Firefly) and, while not a Spyderco, they were sold by Spyderco in Spyderco packaging so his description is accurate.

Second knife is a Spyderco Lil' Temperance and, while the catlog shows the leaf blade version, the knife being auctioned is the less common trailing point (aka Rhino Horn) version but it is legit. Or at least I hope so, as I have one just like it.

So, in short, neither is a fake.

Notice it doesn't go into specifics...blade steel...handles...etc. It's clearly labeled on any genuine Spyderco box, as well as the knife itself in most cases. It's a known fact, that China will try to copy anything and everything possible, in as large a quantity as possible.... to try and outdo the West. You can polish a turd, but it's still a turd.

Not sure which knife you're referring to, since the auction noted in JTCasimir's original post seems to have been pulled by eBay. But, if you're talking about the Hotaru, it appears to be legitimate. The Hotaru (Firefly) was a G. Sakai knife which Spyderco imported and sold in the mid/late 90's. They were not marketed as Spydercos, but did come in Spyderco boxes, so the listing is basically correct. They came in at least two color combos, the one in that auction listing and the reverse of it with a yellow body and black push button for the light.

If you want to see a Spyderco catalog where it's listed, you can download the PDF of the 1994 catalog from Spydiewiki.
