For Delica FFG should I go with blue or grey?
For Delica FFG should I go with blue or grey?
On average, due to my hungry children, I only buy about one knife per year. My first was a Native 3 in black CE; my second was a UKPK FRN in grey S; and somewhere in there, the bug, which I have all the time, but sees far less use. Though I'd like to pick up a knife week and am so envious of those who post here about opening up a box of five Spydercos, (living vicariously helps, though!) I must choose very carefully when I do finally have the chance to buy a new knife. That time has arrived.
I plan on a Delica FFG, but I am so torn between grey and blue. I love the look of the blue, and it is unlike any of my other knives, so it will expand my collection nicely, but I fear it will be too bright, and call attention to it peeking out of my pocket. On the other hand, it will look less sinister when out. The grey on the other hand is my more typical preference. I kind of wish I had gotten the UKPK in blue so now I could get the Delica grey, but with just a couple knives in the drawer, I hate to double up on the color.
Any thoughts? These are very scattered, but in a recent post it seemed that most were much happier with the "Earth tones." I like that, but that blue looks really nice, and the grey looks nice too. Still, a blue knife? Maybe I should get the blue to finally answer the question, and it will be a lesson (good or "bad" [hard to see how such a great knife could be bad at all!]) on which I really prefer. As you can see, I am conflicted. Thanks.

This is just the thing. The blue looks innocuous, but the grey doesn't look at all. I guess I have to decide if I want something "different" (the blue) or something more of the same (gray, my second). Again, I know each knife will be outstanding from what I have heard, but I do need to pick a color. I am still wondering if I should go with the blue as I can then assess how I feel about it this time. If I am not crazy about the color, then I have a great knife with a color I am not crazy about, and will stick to the greys, blacks, and maybe FGreens for the future. But, if I go grey, I will never know, but still have an awesome knife whose color I really like. A draw?Minibear453 wrote:Buy both if you're rich. But for me, it was between a green or a gray endura. And my decision was this: If you don't need the "tactical unobtrusiveness" of the gray, then buy the blue, since it's less threatening.

I bought a blue one and love it, but I still want the gray one too. I feel sure if I would have bought gray, I would be wanting blue though. Great knife in any color!

+1. I'm the second owner of my green FFG Delica 4. I would have accepted either blue or green but I got a great deal on ebay and settled for the green. I think if I was to get an Endura 4, It would be blue.yossarian wrote:I love my green one (so much in fact I just got a matching Endura). Blue was a close 2nd choice. I do feel like the colors help with the perceptions of non-knife people.

Not really. I suppose you could always swap back a healthy collection of Spyderco for a healthy set of three kids.DCDesigns wrote:go blue! and then sell your children into slavery and buy THEM ALL!!!
...Too extreme?
I am leaning blue now which is the way I thought I should go. I think it will help with the difference factor and the excitement of a new blade which I get so rarely. What can be the harm? The worst part may be a little blue peaking out of my pocket (like a half inch?) and there ends the trouble. On the other hand, I will have a unique knife that adds some diversity to my collection. The Native has the "tactical" look in spades so I can always carry it (and sure I often will) for some variety. Between the grey and the black Native, there is just a tad less difference.
I will ponder this as I clean up the debris from the hurricane, and report by day's end. I should place the order too by the end of today so I don't have to wait a moment longer.
I was surprised after that recent posting on colors where most people said they would rather have only the earth tones, to see so many people on this post had blue. I guess the tagline might atract a more "blue" crowd.

I'd say go with the one you know you will like. Get the blue one later (or at the same time). You can always sell it easily and maybe not loose money. Cutleryshoppe.com has free shipping right now if you use "nutnfancy" in the coupon code box. Since they have prices about as good as you'll get normally I'd say you could sell the blue one and not loose any money.pa 1 wrote:This is just the thing. PS
I had a blue Stretch and love the color. I didn't know if I would like it when I ordered it but it was the only color ZDP-189 came in on the Stretch at the time.
i would go with blue. This actually brings up a question I had though. Yesterday I bought a black endura 4, I really wanted brown but I walked in and found the black ce variety for $46 and couldn't pass on it. I seem to recall spyderco selling replacement scales for these, am I crazy or is this true? I can't seem to find were to get them.
