Black handle Spydies.. Uggggg!

#1

Post by ATV1116 »

:spyder: The black handles are getting boring. I can see if miltary, swat, police, etc... prefer a black handle on a knife for stealth issues; but the rest of us IMO including myself should take the next step past the black and into a more colorful handle (that is if Spyderco offers it) Now this is just all my opinion so I hope not to offend anyone.

It's a dark world to begin with; isn't this why we include Spydies in our everyday carry? Let's brighten things up a bit!! There are a number of sprint runs to choose from and let's not forget about those beautiful Delicas and Enduras! Variety is the spice of life and Spyderco offers an awesome variety of colors in the Delica & Endura 4. Manix Sprint runs as well including others...

I personally love the Salt series. I think the Yellow POPS!!! It's gorgeous. So... to end if people would like to show off their colorful variety be my guest. Sorry for the rant and thanks if you took the time to read this!! :spyder:

Every now and then a color becomes popular, whether it's in clothing or cars or whatever....what is it they say? "_____ is the new BLACK" because black just plain works.

I use my knives to cut stuff and not as a fashionably accessory. I'm not real fond of the bright colors and though I would buy them, and have, I'm fine with black. I have a yellow salt that is covered in scratches and is really dirty and it doesn't clean up. I don't care nut if it was black it would probably look close to new. Different strokes for different folks which is why its nice Spyderco has such a variety.

Handle color is the last thing I would consider. To me they're just a little added bonus. My wife has a purple Delica FFG :)

I don't mind a little color if it is green ;) I liked foliage green though and most people didn't. A dark green would be a nice change.

Not talking for me. I'm fine with black being a default color. These are tools not ornaments or jewelry items designed to attract attention.

I assume you mean: "We need our knives for self defence".
Personally, I don't. I don't condone the use of knives for self defence or violence at all.... Thats what has caused knife carrying to be frowned upon is the few who do think they need to be prepared for violence. In fact, if someone were to come at me demanding my wallet, I'd leave my knife in my pocket and give the dude my goddamn wallet, causing bloodshed would just cause more drama or get me killed.

I agree, the options are there for exactly the reasons you mention... plus more. The Salt series have the option of the bright yellow because of visability. Imagine dropping your black knife into a pile of netting on the floor of your boat...

There's been a thread on coloured handles recently, and opinion was divided :

http://spyderco.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51067

While I prefer colour too, I don't mind black handled knives. And I can understand why some (most ?) people like them better.

Would I choose colour over black ? Usually, yes... depending on the colour though.
Would I still buy a knife that I liked if black was the only option ? Definitely.

I think that sums it all up quite nicely.

I used to be completely against colored handles. When I first got into Spydies, I didn't even want the BRG or dark grey Enduras because they weren't black.

But, now I enjoy the variety of colors, and I have most of the colored Delicas, and plenty of colorful G-10. But, many times I still want plain black. The color of a handle usually doesn't stop me from buying a design I like.

I would love if Spyderco would do the same Delica/Endura 4 colors on the Dragonfly and Ladybug lineup.

I totally 100% disagree. While I can on occasion I will buy a knife that is something other than black (or CF) I would be totally happy with all black.

If there are going to be colors...then dark earth tones are the way to go.

although I don't own many colorful knives, I am not against them. As far as being military, I think that as long as its not neon its fine. Many of my peers subdue equipment with the color pink, it works better than even tan in the desert. Yes, even high speed shoot to kill alpha male types like pink!

What is that light blue one, top row, left one. Is that a stretch? was it a sprint run or something? I have a few tattoos this color, I'd love to find a knife to match! That one is gorgeous!

Some shades of pink in some types of desert. Yes. I've seen military equipment done pinkish. The bright pink isn't very subdued though. As far as men carrying pink that's their business not mine. Just don't expect me to. :)

lol, yes I think it goes with out saying that neon pink doesn't camo down very well. I was just trying to point out the misconception that all tactical gear has to be black. And yes I have been known to have a pink ice axe.
