which delica should i get?
which delica should i get?
i'm selling my benchmade :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D not here of course, but i'm gonna use the extra $$ to buy a new delica. i have the SG D4.
I want the FFG ZDP or FFG VG-10
My EDC tasks are fairly light. i'm nice to my knives and mainly open packages and cut fruit. is the ZDP sharpness worth the corrosion issues?
BTW I love sharp sharp sharp sharp knives. sharper the better

There is no corrosion issue. I have had my stretch zdp clipped inside any pants/shorts that I have been wearing for about 7 months now and believe me it gets humid and gross here in the summer. And there is no corrosion at all on my blade. It has been used a lot for all kinds of tasks and only washed before and after it touches food (which is not very often). If you are going to be near salt water, different story, but in general you really have nothing to worry about.

No corrosion issue with ZDP-189. I've been EDC'ing it for weeks-months and I haven't had any issues with corrosion. There also shouldn't be a difference in sharpness, both steels you can get very hair splitting sharp. ZDP-189 has much better edge retention and will hold a sharp edge longer, but I also find that it is harder to get sharp than VG-10. I personally went with ZDP-189 on my FFG delica because I got tired of the edge wearing out more quickly on my VG-10 knives.
I just picked up the green FFG VG-10 Delica. I love it even more than I thought I would. I always thought I had to have a finger choil, but I find this knife really comfortable and light weight with great ergos. I think I actually like it overall more than my caly 3.5 (which is a great knife don't get me wrong!).
Is the ZDP delica FFG also? I didn't know that, and the photo seems to show otherwise:

Yes it is FFG. That is an old stock photo. The FFG model is new as of this year.yossarian wrote:Is the ZDP delica FFG also? I didn't know that, and the photo seems to show otherwise:

My 2nd Spyderco was a FFG Blue Delica. Sharpest thing I've ever owned. The Native that I had I would actually consider dull. The Delica blade just slices anything in half just by touching it. I've been using it for a month or more and it's just now the sharpness of most of my other knives (SAK's, etc).

I agree. No corrosion issues with ZDP-189 for me. The above testimony is good because in addition to Deathby carrying the knife in his pocket all the time, he never washes his clothes. Humid and gross is an understatement. :D Sorry Deathby, couldn't resist.DeathBySnooSnoo wrote:There is no corrosion issue. I'd still recommend anti-corrosion lubrication with any steel but the ZDP-189 seems to hold it's own. I use Tuf-Glide myself and am very happy with it.
On the other hand the VG-10 Delica is great as well. If only enough money is available for the VG-10, get it and love it. If a little more money is there get the ZDP and love it.
I believe the BEST Delica4 is the one that starts with "D". :D Just a great knife.

Ha Ha Ha thanks Jack...too true. Never ever wash or change my clothes, lets me get a really good feel for how well a steel holds up to corrosion. :pjackknifeh wrote:I agree. And the Stretch is clipped inside my waistband actually, so is even more exposed to sweat.
