bomb suit rust
bomb suit rust
well, I decided to take my brand new gayle bradley out to the field. Well after about an hour in the bomb suit, sweating buckets, it had some speckles of rust. No big deal, little clp and a good rub. I decided to force a patina with vinegar. Hope this helps, as it appears there are mixed feelings on this subject. Overall, amazing blade!

Honestly I was bracing for a rant thread. Whew! :)
Glad to hear the GB is standing up. Frankly I was expecting much more severe rust by the description. I would def recommend Tuff Glide if you don't plan on using it for food prep. if you can keep the corrosion at bay its hard to think of a tougher folder.

I have a Manix2 w/M4. As usual, I drowned the blade, pivot, knife in Tuf-Glide the first day. About a month or two later I wanted to put a patina on the blade. It is the only non-stainless blade I have. The result was about 95% unsuccessful. I think this was because of the Tuf-Glide. It's purpose is to protect against corrosion. So, if you want a patina, work on that before using Tuf-Glide. After you get the patina you want, then use Tuf-Glide. I've used Tuf-Glide for about 4 years and had no corrosion problems at all.dgulbra wrote:Try a lubricant like tuf glide, it actually bonds to the metal. Cool :) I use Photobucket. Upload and use the "image code" as a copy/paste to your thread.BJEOD wrote:no rant from this guy, I knew going in it would rust. Especially as much as I sweat in the suit. I couldn't be happier with the gb. I don't really no how to post pics, but if I can figure it out I will!
Welcome to the forums and enjoy the knife!
For years I have wiped on liquid Carnauba wax on my firearms after degrease and knifes and anything else that may get moisture on them where I don't want rust to start. It works great.I have one long gun that I use just about every everyday and only treat it 2 times a year. Last week I got caught in a light rain put it up and did not wipe it down . No rust ever started on the blueing.Miracle Products International P.O. Box 44 Milton WI.53563. You just apply a thin coat and when dry wipe with cloth about 1 1/2 mins. a small bottle lasts a long time.

That's why when it started getting warm here I started carrying all H1 blades on me, no rust. I wear a Tyvek suit at work, they do not breath and you will sweat.

Same here. It has been silly hot here (was last week) with temps over 100 and high humidity. My GB comes out of the pocket dripping (presumably with sweat).
Honestly, I have to really look close to see any sort of spotting...and personally, I do not care. I beat the **** out of this knife, I enjoy a little character!
I was going to make some smart quip about how I hate when I get all sweaty in *my* bomb suit...but it just does not seem right. Big props on performing a critical duty. Thanks!

When I lived Down East I had a Chevy with parking lot cancer. When I spotted rust, I'd dab on some Vaseline. Just once. I'd drive the car, go through automatic car washes, wash the car by hand, etc. One dab of Vaseline on a rust spot was good for years. Looked like spoiled dog meat but it didn't rust, even after all the wash & wear.Evil D wrote:I just read an article about R. Lee Ermey's days in the Marines and they asked what they did back then to keep away rust. He said good old vasaline was all they ever used and it worked. I'd say if that works in the jungle, it would probably work in a sweaty bomb suit.

There is a product you can buy on the web called "Corrosion X" do a search, I simply swear by this product...Not only will it prevent rust....but take any piece of equipment, be it a gun, old pair of pliers ready for the garbage because it's rusted shut, or a fishing reel that won't work cause of salt water corrosion or a bolt that is stuck on with rust which can't be removed or a lock that won't open because of rust on the mechanism.....put a couple of drops of this product on that item wait ten minutes and you will have a fully functional piece of equipment....it's that easy...I can't tell you how many dollars of savings this product has saved me from items destroyed by rust...I clean all my guns, lub all my knives and use it for anything I might want a good lubricant and rust protector for.......The savings will be immense!....I do not own stock or any part in this company, nor am I associated with anyone from the company...when I find something that works as advertised....and does just what the manufacture says it does (which is so rare these days) I just have to sing their praises..... Doc :D

Here is the web site I've had in my favorites for a while but never bought anything.Dr. Snubnose wrote:There is a product you can buy on the web called "Corrosion X" do a search, I simply swear by this product...Not only will it prevent rust....but take any piece of equipment, be it a gun, old pair of pliers ready for the garbage because it's rusted shut, or a fishing reel that won't work cause of salt water corrosion or a bolt that is stuck on with rust which can't be removed or a lock that won't open because of rust on the mechanism.....put a couple of drops of this product on that item wait ten minutes and you will have a fully functional piece of equipment....it's that easy...I can't tell you how many dollars of savings this product has saved me from items destroyed by rust...I clean all my guns, lub all my knives and use it for anything I might want a good lubricant and rust protector for.......The savings will be immense!....I do not own stock or any part in this company, nor am I associated with anyone from the company...when I find something that works as advertised....and does just what the manufacture says it does (which is so rare these days) I just have to sing their praises..... Is CorrosionX Rust Remover is what you are talking about? The 16 oz. bottle looks good but I'll need an applicator bottle for small drops. Is that what you use? The main reason I'd like to check this stuff out is what you say about making rusty old tools usable again.
