I have seen the dye jobs from these gray Para's and Lum Tantos and was not impressed. The dye doesn't seem to penetrate this particular G-10 very well.

Sal,

Depending on the speed at which this sprint sells, is there any possibility of a Para2 in 52100?

Does anyone have a link for an actual picture/image of the Caly 3.5 w/Super Blue? All the pics I see don't appear to be "the real thing"

I think this is a generic prototype picture. I'm pretty anxious to get one. :)

If the only change is the steel, it should look identical to the VG-10 version except for the tang stamp.

The Caly 3.5 is such an elegant knife. I often think that this is one that would be beautiful with exotic wood scales and metal bolsters, (but skip the damascus unless it could have a core made of something like M390).

+1 This is the dream, which didn't come true.
There was talk about possible run of Caly3.5 with Cocobolo scales, when this model was released, but it looks like we are going to get gray G10 instead :(

Well, fortunately, I like the Gray G10 also. :) But wood would have been nicer.

Can someone photoshop this(wood scales and metal bolsters)? I just cant picture this knife with metal bosters and would like to see it. I hope this is shipping soon.

Just pre-ordered, wondering how close we are, mostly to sense if there's any chance I'll get one. I'm a sucker for carbon, hope I slid in there.

Might be a couple years before the real version makes it out the door, but here's a rough mockup of one possible configuration...

...and yes, I left out both the cuts for the wire clip, and the Boye dent. Could be laziness, could be wishful thinking. ;) Of course the bolster could be shorter, longer, shaped along the back edge, or there could be bolsters at both ends.

Nice pic Paul.

They should be out soon. I've been carrying mine for a few weeks. As far as more or different, we're certainly not opposed. Making an expensive carbon steel folder is always a gamble as to the size of the market.

The Caly 3.5 was in itself a gamble as it is close to the Caly3 and many argue that too many of our models are similar. I personally prefer the larger blade, but that's just me, and they're legal in Colorado.

If the Caly 3.5 is popular, we have no problem with making other versions, thought they might be sprints. Zackerty sent us a drawing of a Caly 3.5 with a Bowie style blade. Making one with a bolster and wood scale is also a possibility. We have also had requests for a 2.5" version. Let's see how the response is to the Super Blue model and we'll go from there.

"Caly 3.5 with a Bowie style blade"

Could be really nice!
Is there a sketch you could post?

Thanks

You can count me in for at least 2 of each.

Thanks for the pic Deacon. Yep bolsters on the Caly would work for me but like you said I might like tem a tad shorter and Spyderco with wood slabs would be great.

A Caly 3.5 with a Bowie blade would indeed be interesting. I'm pumped for the Super Blue sprint. I can't wait to try out this steel in a package that I already love.

Thanks for getting this one out for us Caly fans, Sal. :D

I would just like a drop point Caly...they have the blade from the ukpk and the handle and lock already done. Should be pretty easy to pop some better steel in and get some DP Caly action going :D

I've said it before I think the Caly 3.5 with bolsters and cocobolo scales would be a beautiful knife. I like the idea of super blue for blade steel because the patina would add to the elegance IMHO.

I agree with all of this. I think wood goes really well with the patina that develops on carbon steel (if one doesn't keep polishing it off).

For example, here's a photo of an Opinel with a carbon steel blade that has a bit of patina going:
