Shabaria review

#1

Post by Nemo3000 »

Hi Spydergang !

here the link with some pictures and my subjective review of the Shabaria.
Of course I will improve it in the coming days as I'm looking for some archives of the review we made with fred Perrin back in the 90's.

Good write-up. The photos are pretty impressive.

Thank you! the Shabaria, especially in carbon fiber is one of my best looking Spyderco knives.

I did get to inspect one

My boss just got his today>> well of course he had me to inspect it to get my approval :D >>. The knife is truly a masterpiece just like it's predecessor ( the original Shabaria) but I was hoping for a little more grippy version of CF handle material.

It's probably the most solid liner lock I've encountered in quite a while. I'm not a huge fan of recurve blades but I'm heading in that direction. Spyderco has changed my mind somewhat with the Stryker, The Zulu and now this rebirth of the Shabaria.

On a 1 to 10 scale I'll give this blade an 8.7 for function and user friendly folder and as far as collectibility goes I'll give it a 9.8

I still think that the Ayoob is the best Sprint run I've seen in quite a while. I hope to get my hands on one of those blades for sure. For collectibility I highly recommend grabbing a CF Shabaria if you can still get one. JD :spyder: O

Nice review and pictures.
Makes the knife come alive a bit more.
Must be strong as I would never carry it but tempting nonetheless.

Too bad he went out before his time;( the few designs he did for Spyderco were superb. The Shabaria to me is one of the sexiest knives spyderco has ever made. It is true art work.

That was an excellent review, thank you.

I must admit, the Shabaria did not appeal to me when I first started looking at Spydercos, however, your photos really have me thinking differently.

It looks very comfortable in hand and seems as though it would be a very useful tool for many cutting tasks.

It's interesting that certain designs can start to grow on you even after turning a blind eye to them so many times before.

The new CF sprint is the only version I've had the pleasure of owning. And it is flat OUTSTANDING!! Out of the 40+ Spyderco knives I've owned over the years, this one is my favorite.

Pick one up and see for yourself.

Thanks for the review.

Nemo,

Thank you for amazing review and pictures. This is your second review, which I read and it made me curious: "he must have more". Fortunately for me, this was right. I enjoyed several more your reviews on my favorite knives and love the idea of sanding scale on para2. Can you, please share details how you did this and what grits of sand paper did you use? Your writing skills are very impressive, and considering that you live in France impress me in you skills even more. Thank you again.
Shabaria is one of my favorites and I was fortunate to get original. I absolutely love the knife. IMHO Shabaria is one of most beautiful knives Spyderco made ever.

Thank you all of you for the very nice words ! And your indulgence toward my use of English language. :)
Sanding the Para2 was done with 400 grit sand paper and finished with white polished for the shiny feel.
It's now very very smooth and trouser's pocket safe ! ;-)

cheers

I never really wanted this knife, but then I read your review. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the handle shape as well as its utility. Those were my biggest two concerns with this knife.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go and dig through the couch to see if I can find enough loose change to pick one up...

Nice review :) Now I want one, but alas that is not in the cards. I'm sure the folks that purchase them will prize them and enjoy them very much :)

Anyone else have experience with the handle geometry? I'm intrigued with the new sprint but I've never handled one IRL. I wish they had gone with something other than VG10. It is a great steel but I feel like something else would be more appropriate in this platform. The new V Toku steel to go along with the newest Japanese sprint series or Super Blue!
