Penn fishing reel?
Penn fishing reel?
This is probably a long shot but I thought it was worth a shot. Anyone here own a Penn spinfisher 430ssg or 420ssg. I am currently in the market for a new fishing reel since mine is getting ready to kick the bucket. I was wondering about the size of them. I have handled it in a Bass Pro around a year ago and believe the 430ssg was about the right size for me but cannot remember. Any pictures or help determining the size would be appreciated.

Penn is super quality
Penn is truly a high quality fishing reel. Particularly the older USA made models. I'm personally a big fan of the German made D.A.M. Quick line of fishing equipment. But I feel like I'm on the same page as you because quality fishing equipment seems to be disappearing from the landscape.
Probably your best bet for finding such a model as you are looking for would be to explore Ebay or some of the other auction sites. There are also a few websites dedicated to buying, selling and trading new and old fishing equipment.
There is a guy from up in New York State named Ben Wright who has written some exhaustive guides on open faced spinning reels and his books are like gold in my opinion. Good Luck

Long Live the SPYDEREDGE Spyderco Hawkbills RULE!!
I was actually looking for a new one, even though there now made in china I have heard they still are very good. Only problem is it is considered a saltwater reel and up here in upstate new york no retailers carry them. my problem is getting the right size. And there is also a nice reel that I tried out at a local store that is very smooth and I know the size and that I like it but I don't think it would last as long as the Penn ssg. Reel here=more expensive but no shipping and Ive tried it. But Penn=cheaper, last longer, love the way it looks but I have to take a chance on size and pay shipping

Well I got the other fishing reel which was a wright & mcgill skeet reese spinning reel..................................for 5minutes. thats right 5minutes. I bought it brought to my vehicle, opened the box and wallah low and behold a huge chip out of the plastic near the butt end of it. So I brought it back and decided to get myself the penn online. So now I just have to wait for it to come to my house. I hate waiting. The funny part about it is one the employees laughed to himself and said plastic, when i asked another to take it out of the case. I didn't even know it had any plastic. and then when I walked outside I said to myself if there is anything wrong with it its going back and im getting the penn. Now don't hold this against the company or reel, this reel is very smooth, I think I just got a lemon but O'well.
