Return of the Starmate!!!

#1

Post by kawr »

Sal has confirmed that he is looking into the possibility of bringing back the Starmate. I know the original Starmate is my Spyderco grail and I would love to see this knife back into production. Now I know its not a done deal but I cant help being excited about this. Just another example of Sal listening to his customers even if it doesnt necessarily translate into profit for his company.

This has to be the best news I've ever heard on this Forum (or any forum for that matter). Of course it comes, the EXACT day, that I got my own original Starmate in the mail.

It took me a few years to track one down without paying nosebleed money, and I wouldn't mind having another. I just hope Bob T doesn't nix it again.

I had one years ago and it was nice. The handle was nice and the blade made it a real looker. Overall, I settled on the Military instead of it, largely due to the wider blade and better slicing of the flat grind.

I'd be interested in one again, so long as its not S30V. With the original being 440V, it ought to get a nice, upscale steel. G-10 is fine for the handles and as much as I like FFG's on a general basis, I'd say stick with the hollow grind like the originals. If we really want to distinguish it, give it either tan or gray G-10. That would be amazing.

Id love the have an affordable Starmate to beat up on. Be sweet if it cost a bit less than the g10 lum sprint.

Please keep the original blade grind and the medallion in the handle. XHP would be a nice steel. :)

The Starmate and the Chinook1 are my grails right now but Spyderco keeps hammering me with all the new releases. I cant resist buying the new ones so my slush funds, (spyderco money) cant recover long enough for me to save up for them.
