Dang! This is perfect size for my office EDC. I originally thought it would be same size as Sage 1, but with mid lock. Boy, was I wrong about that! This now goes on to my gotta get list!

Only problem is, it appears the person describing the knife mis-spoke. Blade is most definitely not under 2", it's just a hair over 2.75".

Realised that I haven't given input on this yet :/

The knife looks really, really good. I've been searching for something to fill this spot for quite long-an "upscale Delica" with a choil, thin blade, screw construction...

No complaints from the photos. The size looks perfect, the clip too; the blade thickness is just sweet. I would prefer ZDP for steel but S30V is excellent as well.

As for handle materials, I second a nice burl wood, or Street-Beat style contoured Micarta. Another option is perhaps G10 like the BM Rift has (it's black and grey, and looks really nice to me)

I think this would be a good testbed for a 2-color micarta, like that old Mora that was not really plausible previously but should be now (Sal knows which one I'm talking about I think - the Yin & Yang looking knife - this would be very cool on the Chaparral)

Looks like THE knife I`ve been looking for ,steel, handle and correct size to fit the watch pocket and hand. The pictures you took were awsome ,especially side by side ones to capture the real size .So is there an educated guess on an ETA for this fine tool?

Has anyone else noticed that the Chaparral is nearly the exact same knife as the Native 4 CF? If you hold one up to the pic you will see that the handles are nearly identical (other than the laynard hole) and the blade other than the thumb ramp is identical too.

But it looks more like a mini sage 1 imho.

Not unless you think the Sage I is also nearly the same knife as the Native IV. The Chaparral is considerably smaller than both the Native and the Sage and has a thinner blade than either of them. I'd agree with black that it could more accurately be called a smaller version of the Sage.

I know that the Chaparral is supposed to be a small sage...but the handles are nearly the same (much more the same than the chap and the sage are) and then put a smaller spydie hole which would eliminate the slight thumb ramp, you'd have the same blade shape as the Native 4. Just my opinion of course, and not having the Chaparral on hand to do a side by side I can't be exact, but by using the pics on this thread, this page...and my native, seems like they are really VERY similar.

Since the Sage came out of a sort of wedding between the Caly and the Native, it makes sense that the Sage would have mom's eyes and dad's nose. And the Chaparral, being a shrunken version of the Sage, would retain those same features, but just on a smaller scale. I can see the similarities you're talking about. The Sage has more of a hump at the back of the handle while the Chap is flatter across the back.

Paul may not own a Cat, its a wrong handed lock for him. But, if he'd like to send me the Chaparral I would kindly put it next to my Cat and share some photos.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Sure, just send me your Cat. :D

All kidding aside, I would if I could. Problem is, I don't own a Cat and have no plans to purchase one.
