Hello, i bought NEW knife Spyderco Endura and i must noticed, that its really , because after test in state office - blade hardness is 49 HRC only!!! Its Czech official certified state department, tests for steel quality. They laugh here, after test and said me, its "instant american quality". Here, on the knife is write ATS-55,its perhaps some special vietnamese steel from Spyderco )I take this knife back to shop, and i want back money ,because i will not pay money (cost here in Czech perhaps 199usd)for******from Spyderco....they laught in office after hardness test and said me, never knife from "hamburger" firm Spyderco. Im really NARKY of it...,and in addition, that i wanted buy SOG or Emerson knife, but at the end i select Spyderco Endura, so im debil ....

Sorry my english, but i must write here, because its fraudulent firm,Spyderco.

And this story have continue, today morning i change knife in shop, where i bought (they without gups gave me new knife, when they saw certificate about hardness ...), but i would go back to state office and here they make again test,at the new knife, and result ? HRC 52 ....And one my friend have some Benchmade knife, he was with me in the laboratory and after my wish he leave tested his knife and his knife have had hardness 60HRC..

Tomorrow i go back to shop a i want MONEY back, and NEVER i will not Spyderco ....

have a nice day

Simona

Simona,
I'm sorry you think that Spyderco does not live up to your expectations, however I do not believe your story. I think you have made this up and are trying to spread false rumors and cause trouble. Please take your crude attempt to stir the pot somewhere else. Your attempt to bash the United States is childish and as clear as glass. Good day and get a life.

Barefoot_Simona,

...Calvin Klein panties? Well, where's the pictures of you wearing your Calvin Klein panties?

As far as the hardness testing goes, maybe the numbers are different where you are, compared to what we use in the USA...You know, the metric thing? Maybe your 49 would be 58 here in the USA?

Barefoot_Simona,
Welcome to the Spydie forum!!!
Did you do any cutting with the Endura?? or just test the hardness?? Did you test the cutting edge?? or the back edge of the knife??
Sometimes it can make a difference. Do you have a picture of the blade where the test was performed?? Just wondering.

Within certain limits, Rockwell Hardness is not a very good indicator of how well a knife blade will perform. There is a difference between "hardness" and "toughness" to metallurgists, and you can make some steels so hard that they're brittle like glass - not a great feature for a knife blade.

On a more positive note, I got my Combo Edge VG-10 Endura today, and I'm tickled pink with it. Might just be the perfect medium-large EDC

Hello Simona, and welcome to the Forum. I am sorry that you have a bad first impression about the Endura. I will try to clear some things and maybe lift up your mood a bit.
First, I also have some ATS-55 knife (a Delica and a Copilot) and they perform great. I didn't have the opportunity to do a Rockwell test and frankly I don't mind as long as my Delica cuts like ****. It is true that the specs for ATS-55 range between 59÷61 Rc. so your results are to say the least, very unpleasant .
I'd like to know what it is written on the blade (Seki City or Golden).

to Blades::: so first thank you for you Welcome, because,so you read up mm, first test point i see, is near lettering SPYDERCO(under is write ATS-55),but two peoples in laboratory was surprised after and they said its not possible, because its sign as ats 55 steel and 49 ?, so second test point is at second side, on the blade, directly in middle area, perhaps 7 mm above the edge and same result...and after they laugh, and noticed, what i wrote up...and in addition they smile, that i bought knife Made in McDonalds...
And i notice again, one my known boy, leave test his knife here, Benchmade, and hardness 60, so i dont know, i have not feelings, that, they in laboratory or mine is idiot...

to dialex::: haj so i dont know, if i get back my mood perhaps tomorrow, when i get back money for knife in shop...,they said,(i must notice that they are serious salesmans there) that,if second knife will bad, they give me money back and will something solve with some spyderco dealer and in newsletters also...so i must take knife and tomorrow i will go there
so and i will have not nothing from tomorrow and is ...
Maybe, maybe is strange why,why 25 yrs.old girl need some sharp knife so i try explain, but sorry my english first , i have had 2 months ago hard conflict with some drunked idiot, direct on the street, evening, when i would go back from cinema,he attacked me, i got slap and what you know, he kill you or rape or what, what you can do ?? so i have had i my jeans some little knife, which i bought in summer at some gas station, some shitknife from hongkong, cost perhaps 7usd,but was sharp, yes, sharp,so and when he hold me,for my long hair, i take knife from my jeans, from pocket and im cut off him, to left leg
Someone saw this conflict and call from mobile phone police and etc..,so good defense from me, he got 15cm long and 3cm deep cut and police after all said me, that is good output from me..
So i said, god know, what i meet next, so i said, i buy some brand knife, for better feeling
After 2 months looking i select Spyderco Endura...is light weight, nice blade for some next leg and when i have it in my pocket, no problem, i try knife give at my stocking also is possible too, under skirt ,but stockings belt is necessary for it or stocking is going below
So, its reason, why i bought nice and brand knife...

Simona-

This is great! Your killing me.

Sorry to hear about the knife "thing".
But seeing it's made in Japan maybe they got some bad steel from an old tank or jeep left over from the vietman war, and forged the blade at a Mcdonalds in Seki City. You did the right thing and took it back!
Are you looking for something HARD?????????
.
.
.
.
Get a Boker with a ceramic blade, it should fly off the rockwell scale.

By the way, your english is getting better. As far as the panties-America does make some great things!!!! I wouldn't mind a "peek".

Simona ~ The Endura should be good enough for self defence. The thumbhole should make it easier to open quickly - Features you should look for in a knife are slim, lightweight, with an easy to open blade. Have you thought about a Switchblade?
