What don't like ?

#1

Post by ken »

We know what you like about these spydies, and that's what brings us here.

BUT

What is it you would change or dislike about your EDC?

AllenETreat said it best "nothings perfect" and

Simona shocked some of us with her displeasure, but she did say why she selected a spydie!

How do you make a better product if you don't get negetaive feedback? And the big man does read these posts. It was a class act on how he was going to resolve Simona knife problem! What a guy!

I own and Endura S/S, CE, AUS6- so what i would change (and I beleave they have on some) is

1. That all models were lefty friendly.

2. Better steel. I can get it sharp but it doesn't hold an edge that well.

3. S/S, FRN, G10 handles on all models

Just my thoughts. There has to be something!

Lock, Handle shape/size, Size of hole, Hole interfering with handle, ect. ect. Or do you own the perfect EDC?????

My general improvements accross the range, in no particular order are :

1) More SS handles with better steels, at one time all SS handles seemed to come with AUS-6.
2) Much more use of G-10 as a handle material. I would like the Endura with a dicient steel and G-10 handle.
3) More full flat grinds with the combination of the leaf/drop point shape. Bring back both sizes of Calypso.
4) More deep pocket clip configurations. The wire clip on the Meerkat is ideal.

The model I would like to see most improved would be the FRN Native.
First change it to the G-10 Native as standard.
Then give it a full flat grind.
But keep the CPM440v or BG42 blade, not had enough experience with S30V yet to tell how toothy a cut it has.

I would love to have a full flat grind with a really agressive toothy cut.

That goes for me too.
Some of the pocket clips make the knive ride up to high in the pocket.
The Meerkat clip is what I like in a clip.

Understand ONE THING before "dreaming";

the COST of the material(s) into the

finished product vs. final cost to the

End Line User ( READ : CONSUMER ). If

enough ELU's would be willing to bear

the extra COST of the stated

material(s), then there should be NO

PROBLEM from a "marketing perspective".

I have found, however, that <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> oft does

as it goddamn well please(s)!<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

But, if ENOUGH people complain, they'd

(<img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>) would be left with little choice.

Problem : TOO MANY COMPLACENT PEOPLE

OUT THERE!

will reap mediocrity..." -AET<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

A military exactly the same as the current model only 20 to 25% smaller.

I second ken's remarks, must be lefty friendly, take the cricket, I believe only the FRN is lefty friendly, compared with some other variation of that model. I'll be disappointed if the new ss model mirrors some of the discontinued models and doesn't have the extra 5 100ths clearance necessary.

Every Spydie should be:

*100% "Lefty-friendly".
*(At least) VG-10 steel.
*Available in G-10 (with dual stainless liners) as well as textured (non-slip) stainless scales and FRN.

I would like to see more G-10 scales and
more of the "deep" cary clips like the Meerkat.

Deep pocket clips are a must. Also, black clips that the paint doesn't come off so easily.

If you don't mind "non-tactical" SS

you could get in touch with Mike Hayes

@ <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Warranty & Repair & have him send

you some SS Rescue reversible clips<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Solves my problems with the chipping

black paint<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Or, theres always

taking them to a gunsmith & have them

sent for annodizing<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> As for "what

don't like?" I no likee the way We

greeted Barefoot_Simona one bit!<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I agree with the 100% lefty friendly characteristic.

I would also like to see the Calypso coming back, especially in Micarta, such a beautiful knife.

Any news on that "Spyderco Kris adaptation" I requested about a year ago, Sal? <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Once again I generally agree with Yog. More pocket clips like the Meercat's.
More G10
More Flat Grinds

I'm not too bothered about SS Handles, but would welcome Ti handles.

Personally I'd like to add:

G10 Lum Chinese (compression lock too maybe?). Make it into a hard-use folder.

A Spyderco Framelock in 2 sizes (Spybenza?!)

Change the 'wet look' carbon fibre finish to a less easily scratched matt finish.

Everything else is brilliant, and everytime I think I'm making inroads into finishing my Spydie collection, you keep making more "must-haves" <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

A G-10 , Micarta or Matt finished CF handled Endura, with single or double liners and VG-10 flat ground blade.

I would like to see all Spyderco's with polished SS clips. Flat black and gloss black are just cosmetic and get ugly. I don't like FRN handles and really just don't like the way they look. Aluminum handles get ugly with use. I would pay extra for G10. I would like to see every knife tested for blade snap and ease of release from the opened position. Back Lock, Liner Lock and Frame Lock are OK with me. My favorite now is the Shabara. It is light, easy to open and close and usable. Just my .02 cents worth.

Endura 4 FFG
1. second knife i bought, (nutnfancy recommendation)
with its name (and no knife experience) i expected it to.. endure
small 2intch branch batoning, it didn't lock failed.
when opening the knife i was surprised how little contact there's between blade & lock. (no damage to blade)

2. cutting up apples daily i got small bumps in the edge
(apple seeds i presume) sharp maker i couldn't fix or re profile.
so it wont cut paper good, because of the chinks.

3. surprisingly "slow" opening, i have small/medium hand
and it requited flicking to open fast, i don't feel safe doing that.
this blade scares me a little.

4. FRN make it feel cheep, unlike the VG 10! i wouldn't mind
pay little more to get G10 (in ffg).

5. there is stiff competition,
one example kershaw scamp, half priced, half knife?
i'm most pleased with the blade itself & sharpness out of box.
it growing on me, slowly, but cant say i'm a fan. (yet?)

6. i think spyderco knifes are very thematic to the
company design line, i would like to see new designs that
step away from that style completely
and when you look at them you don't automatically know its spyderco..

I guess:

-Some less-structured handles. For example, most Spydercos are flat, but "broad". Perhaps a step away? Not a complete change, just something new.

-Complete ambidexterity is a (Y).

-FRN is good; keep it.

-More "good steels in a cheap package" like the ZDP Delica/Endura.
