Howdy Hydro! Welcome to Land!

I am definitely a fan of , but Uni frowns on one-handers, so I also have a lot of "traditional" folders.

Let's see now.. Rummaging through the box, there's a half-dozen Case, a Queen, a couple SAKs, a few Old Timers, and a Buck for balance.

Given a choice, I'd say a SS lends itself best to engraving. Queen, Buck and Case all make SS-handled models, but the sides aren't large enough to say much.

Never underestimate the impossible.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Camillus, with their EDC with various steels AND Talonite and their Cuda Maxx folders, both Bowie blade and their new stiletto, with 1000 ft.lb resistant frame locks, 5.5 in. D2 blades, anodized titanium frames.... Those folks are upping the bar a whole lot!

There's a way to settle this: GOOGLEFIGHT.com !

Number of results on Google for the keywords spyderco and benchmade:

spyderco ( 102 000 results) versus benchmade( 58 900 results)

The winner is: spyderco

(just to be clear, I have nothing against benchmade, I've always wanted an AFCK, but my collection is still 95% Spyderco.)

(Dang, I'm getting close to my century-post milestone!)

Jus tover 50% Spyderco while the others consist of: Buck, Cuda, Kershaw, Benchmade, MOD, Almar, Sog, Microtech, CS, Gerber I think thats all? Closest competitor is hard Spydie is my fav but they all in their won way put out a good product or else they would not be in business. Nevertheless Spyderco is "THE BEST" !!!!!!!

Spydercos are the shiznez and Benchmade is probably their main competitor - but then, with Spyderco's selection, price, customer service, and innovation - it's not really a competition. I am a holic but have been seen in the company of Benchmades, Bokers, Bucks, CRKTs, Emersons, MODs, Camillii, a Master, and about 30 Delta Zs. (Barnaby Zelman is one of the most accessible, personable, and customer oriented owners out there). Also carry a custom or two from Theun Prinsloo, Darrel Ralph, and Vox!!

Mostly Spyderco, but I did purchase a Benchmade 690 and most recently a 710HS PE.

I have a few others. but nothing compares to a spyderco. i love the round hole too much. the hole is better then anything else. If i was to get another brand i would probably get a Emerson commander, or P-sark

I own: Cold Steel, Microtech, Al Mar, SOG, Boker and Spyderco.

I refuse to limit myself to one single brand.

I have never set out to collect any particular brand. I buy whatever knives appeal to me and then keep the ones that prove useful as well as attractive. However, 7 of my 18 folders are Spydercos. I think that says something about Spyderco's innovation and quality.

My wife is even less of a collector than I am, but she has followed a similar process. All of the knives she has kept are Spydercos! (I think her custom Ocelot prototype counts as a Spydie.)

When looking for best quality real life working knives, you don't have to look anywhere else as to Spyderco. I hope everybody has read Sal's explanation a while ago about the innovative nature of this very special company and the product it produces (Constant Quality Improvement-CQI).
So, I could do with just Spyderco for my cutting needs. The world however is filled with lots of tempting stuff that sometimes works very well or looks so good that I just can't live without it.
I aggree with Ted from The Hague about the Chris Reeve Sebanza, I own one and it is a great knife!
I also like my small Dozier Thorn and the new Dozier Folding hunter (absolute best value for money knife since..) from Ka-Bar.
In the field of competition you should not forget that BUCK and SWISS ARMY Knives supply to the masses. Maybe not as fancy as Spyderco, but very high volumes!

Clipits work!

I will pick up a knife of another brand every now and then if I like it and the price is right, but I primarily spend my time and money on Spydercos, especially this year. I have gone from 5 Spydies to 16 since March.

I would have to agree with the other forumites who say Benchmade is Spyderco's closest competitor, althought that's one brand I don't have yet. I bought one several years ago with a round hole in the blade like but took it back because I didn't like the feel of it. It was sealed in a plastic wrapper so I couldn't handle it before I purchased it.

Mark.

I'm actually am only rediscovering Spydercos. I was on a REKAT kick for a while with only a few left, the nicest is a green handled Carnivour Cub. Recently I have been getting Benchmades, and I currently have only a few with a couple of Prototypes. I purchased a Spyderco Navigator the other day and I have been extremely impressed with it! The Military and Delica I had before left me rather cold. I didn't like either of them, so I went looking at "other" knife manufacturers. I'm going to start looking at Spydercos again if the Navigator is an indication of what Spyderco is now producing.

Easyrider,

It's funny that you should mention that you had a Delica and that you wasn't too impressed with it. I had one a few years ago, and wasn't all that impressed either...Then I got another one about 6 months ago, and now have 3 of them (I had 4, but gave 1 away), and now the Delica is one of my favorite Spydies.
