Yes! But!
I must see a drawing/picture of the knife to be convinced. I do like the idea, as I'm not completely pleased with the blade shape. As a whole package though it's a great knife, I have a VG10 and a CF ZDP.
Still, lets give a new shape a try.

Just so everyone is aware of "what started this", Sal made this comment over on BladeForum about eight months ago in response to a question regarding the possibility of future Stretch variations.
I won't say that it's a "new" model, but we are making a prototype of a stretch model with a straight spine like the Endura and Delica. We plan to show it at shows to get feedback. I guess there are many that "don't like the looks" of the Stretch drop-point shape and we'd like to get feedback on the question.
I did not get the impression the drop point would be replaced.

Here's a quick "photochop", based on Spyderco's stock photo of the FRN Stretch. It's not perfect, but should give a fair idea of how one might look...

That actually looks pretty cool, Paul. Your pic even looks to have a high flat grind like I so desire. :D

- best wishes, Jazz.

I think that looks nice as well, but only as a complement to the current stretch, not as a replacement. I don't know if I'd even call it a Stretch as it is far less distinctive and really looks like an FRN Paramilitary with a midlock.

Adding some 'cosmetic' steel seems to me to be against the original concept of the Stretch. CF version has been my usual EDC for quite some time now and the deceiving looks are somewhat part of the package.

I agree, Ben. Whatever happens, please DO NOT stop making the current Stretch shape!

I've owned a Hunter and a Pro-Venator in years past and currently have three Stretch/Stretch2s. I love the ergos and overall configuration of the knife - it is my go-to knife for yard work and general puttering around the house...

My gut reaction based on your quick 'Shop is.....Meh. just nothing really interesting, and I think that it looses some of it's sweep in the tip. So just get an endura.

Isn't a straight spine Stretch basically a Caly 3.5? I voted no.

I voted no. I think the stretch is perfect the way it is. If Paul's rendering is close to what it would look like then its just a stretch handle with a delica blade.

I voted "NO" to this variant. Like others posted above, I didn't see the need for a knife that looked like so many others (even with the improved ergos of the handle).

I saw it at the Amsterdam Meet 2011. The size and shape of the blade reminded me very much of the 93mm Citadel.

You're most certainly entitled to your opinion. However, by that logic a good two thirds of the Spyderco lineup, excluding collaboration models, could be labeled redundant. FWIW, I own both the Caly 3.5 and the Stretch. IMHO, they're both great in their own regard, but the differences between them go way beyond blade shape.

I dont really care either way. I like both blade shapes. Not sure if I would pick up another stretch just for a slightly different blade shape but im sure people who never warmed up to the original blade would jump all over this.
