PE Hawkbill Ladybug?

#1

Post by Jesting Devil »

Any chance of this ever happening?

I love the size of the ladybug as a keychain EDC and I'm very interested in trying out the hawkbill blade shape (especially in H1). However, I'd much prefer it in a non-serrated blade partly for the ability to cut more smoothly and partly because I just don't find serrations as attractive aesthetically

Anyone else interested?

Agreed. I haven't purchased a SE Spydie in 15 years...

I'll be the voice of dissent and say that I have absolutely no interest in PE H1. In Spyderco's in house tests, they showed that plain H1 ranks in under AUS8 for edge holding, while the serrated version outclasses even ZDP from the work hardening during grinding. Especially on a hawkbill knife for pulling cuts on rope and cord, SE works wonders and makes the Ladybug feel like a bigger blade.

:spyder: I have a pe tasman and it just wont get as sharp. if scary sharpness isn't important h1 certianly gets quite usably sharp just not super sharp like vg10 or s30v and the rest. :spyder:

I have a Salt 1 PE so I know H1 isnt the best for edge retention but thats why I have a sharpmaker! ;)

And maybe ill just have to give a serrated blade a try one of these days... but I'd still prefer PE

You must be jesting, devil. Dont like SE because it does not look pleasing to your eye. If it's all about what looks good then I can tell you that it looks very impressive the way that SE cuts rope or seat belts or shrink wrap  .

Valid point but as a small EDC blade I don't really expect to cut a whole lot of seat belts with it and as a college student, I don't really need to cut rope too often either ;)

For most of my common uses that I would carry such a small blade for (opening packages and mail, breaking down cardboard, trimming tags, maybe small food prep, ect) I feel PE cuts more smoothly and cleanly.

I was just thinking of this yesterday - I would be in. At the price who could say no?
Would have to be VG10 though - I'm no salty sailor so H1 interests me about as much as brown bread.

I would be very interested in one myself. I have been carrying my Hawkbill Ladybug for about two weeks now, and have used it extensively during the recent move from out old office buildings into a temporary location. I could not tell you how much tape, zip ties and plastic bags it has cut and it is still going strong. :D

Earlier today, I was actually looking for a PE Hawkbill Ladybug, and realized that there was only SE. I was looking for something light to use for opening letters, paper etc around the office. You get a double-take when you pull out a SE Spyderhawk or Manix 2 to open a a ream of copy paper.
Count me in Sal.
