The Manix For Me? FRCP

#1

Post by araneae »

Who else is hyped up for the FRCP Blue Manix? I have to say that it looks like the Manix for me. I have admired the Manix line since they came out, but they just seemed overbuilt for me. Too much weight for my taste. I have watched the seemingly endless varieties of the Manix 2 come out of Golden and was tempted many times. The Stag Arms and Orange models were fantastic looking knives, but I know that I wouldn't carry them. So I waited...

When news of the translucent Manix surfaced, I was pretty ecstatic. I loved the clear proto, and the blue is just as cool. I am a big fan of unlined knives, I know Spyderco can build 'em plenty tough. The FFG is much more appealing to me than the hollow ground versions. The wire clip is my preference too. It sounds like the plan is BD-1 steel, which I have no experience with so i look forward to trying it out. Its like the :spyder: crew went down the list and made the Manix I would want most. I am definitely looking forward to this one. Looking at Wouter's pics makes me even more excited.

This just seems like the Manix made for me.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

The new lightweight Manix 2 looks so awesome. I have a regular Manix 2 and it is amazing. Just the wway it is built. Now that there will be a lighter one! Doesnt get much better. I will have an edc Manix and a heavy weight Manix. What more can you ask for?? Lol. :)

When I first saw the 2011 Sypderco catalog it was the new/blue Manix that immediately caught my eye as a 'must have;' more-so than any other new knife in the 2011 line-up. When I first saw reports that it wasn't slated to be released until late this year, I was bummed.

I've already paid for mine, and am just playing the waiting game for the blue Manix 2. I only have the Orange Sprint FFG/S30V version, but it is one of my favorites. I really enjoy the bushing pivot system, and the speed at which the blade deploys when it's flicked open.

I'm looking forward to the wire clip on that knife, as well.

Everywhere you look now you see Manix! What's the big deal? How can one knife be so great? When I get the one I've ordered in my hand then I'll know first hand and probably agree with everyone else. :D :D

I'd like this knife for the blade steel...but I'm not too sure about the handle. So this one might be a "later on" kind of thing for me.

I will end up getting one because it is a Manix, however I'm just not as excited as everyone else about the handle. To me, the Manix is a strong and sturdy line of knives but with that handle and no liners it looks like it will break if you look at it wrong.

The weight of the blue FRCP Manix at the 2011 Amsterdam Meet was impressive. I immediately though of is as a carry for lightweight sweats, shorts, etc. You get a larger-sized knife and blade, but in a weight more like good-zised gentleman's folder.

I would only prefer a more 3D handle like the Native III or the D'Allara series.

Please don't quote me because I don't remember where I heard it but the source was very reliable and the above statements are 100% accurate as well as intentional. The goal is to have a knife with Manix features in a lighter but larger gentleman's folder like Chris said. I believe that was the intent when designing a "prettier" Manix. I think this shows Spyderco's desire and willingness to produce knives that will fit a larger number of it's customer's needs or desires.

Would you say the handle was slim like a Stretch? To me it looks a bit thicker in the pictures.

Don't be afraid of that. Sal and Eric told us about the design process of this particular knife, and they engineered it, tested (broke) it, and toughened the parts that gave way, over and over again.

I am not shure of the lbs rating, but I know I fond it very impressing for such a light and large folder. It is worth the CBBL!

I was on the fence about the Manix 2. The production model doesn't really appeal to me, and the sprints are hard to get my hands on. So it will be nice to see a lightweight FFG Manix 2 that is inexpensive, easier to aquire, and designed with more features that I like.

I absolutely love the looks of this knife but it may be a little to big for me to justify getting one. I generally prefer to EDC something a little smaller than the Manix 2.

Any chance that we will see a smaller version of this down the line? I think this knife and a mini-version would make a great competitor to Benchmade's Griptilian/mini-Griptilian line-up.

Definitely looking forward to this one as it will be quite the departure from other M2s.

I think the Sage 3 qualifies as a decent smaller alternative. I've had my eye on one, as I prefer a 3" blade size and lower weight.

That's a good thought, but based on the cost of the G-10 Manix 2 and the pattern of price between G-10 knives and FRN knives (I'm assuming FRN is comparable to FRCP) then there will be a hefty price difference between the FRCP Manix 2 and the Sage 3.

Hmmm... I never considered that. The Manix 2 seems to be an excellent value right now. If the FRCP was less expensive, it may just be the value leader of the Spyderco lineup.

Very excited about this version of the Manix for many of the reasons you described araneae. Those translucent blue handles are really calling to me.

No, it was thicker than the Stretch FRN model as you figured from the photos. It felt like a regular G-10 Manix 2 just much lighter.
