3 words....Starmate RIL Sprint...I want one.

Well RIL may not be a word, but a acronym...that is besides the point...

With the popularity of the Starmate folders and Spyderco's strong relationship with Bob T.....why not? The RIL Military and the Knifeworks exclusive was a big hit. The Lum tanto is being revisited, so why not this model? It is a great alternative to the Military. I have an original Starmate in 440V and it will never be sold/traded. Who else loves this model?

My favorite custom Terzoula is a framelock ATCF, so a RIL Starmate would be a perfect Spyderco EDC. I'd buy at least two. What do you guys think?
...oh you know why!

Absolutely!
I've been wanting a PE Starmate for a long time but haven't come across one at a decent price. This is one model that we definitely need a sprint of.

Yes, sound like a good choice to me. I missed the original Starmate since it came out and I am still looking for a decent plain edged one. Missed several other classics, Spyderco gave me for example a chance to get new (sprint)runs of the Walker and Lum leaf. I am also eagerly waiting for the Lum Tanto....
Starmate in its original form in sprintrun-edition will be a wanna-have...

Pass. As much as I like the Starmate, I personally feel that adding a big slab of metal, even titanium, to one or both sides would turn a great lightweight knife into a boat anchor. Not to mention than I absolutely despise having that exposed lockbar under my fingers. I prefer my knives to be finished.

A sprint in S90V with either G-10 or CF scales would get my money, though.

"finished" ...I've never heard anyone refer to a framelock or RIL as unfinished. To each his own, but I'd take one in either RIL or linerlock myself. S90V would be a plus.

I may be the only one that thinks that way, but to me the RIL/framelock is just a liner lock with no scales. Metal is fine for liners, but I prefer something less thermally conductive for the part in contact with my skin. And I really prefer light to heavy in a knife I'm going to be carrying every day.

I would buy a Starmate of any type of lock, any steel, any scales. I've always wanted one but the price on one of these bad boys is borderline insanity.

Hate being a party pooper here but...

Making a liner lock into a RIL isnt that simple and such a model would require re-engineering. And we should all have learned by now that re-engineering a knife for a small sprint run just isn't feasable. The Ti/G10 Military was an exception, a RIL Military already existed and they just changed the material of the front scale to G10.

For a RIL Starmate to happen it would need to be brough back as a regular production piece and it just isn't certain if there is enough market for that particular model. It was most probably discontinued due to low-sales like most discontinued models.

A linerlock sprint run on the other hand is a lot more plausible. :)

Well, a new Starmate would be cool. And I'm not saying that I don't own and carry RIL knives. But I agree that knives with scales on one side and a bare lock on the other also strike me as "unfinished."

I would love to see sprint Starmate as is, just upgrate steel. Dark green G10 will be a big plus.
