It's crap. Send it to me and you will never have to look at it again. On a serious note I'm sure Spyderco will take care of it for you.

This was one of the first things I noticed when I got my DLC Para 2s (I ordered two) a couple days ago. I wiped them down to make sure there wasn't any oil/residue on the blade and compared them to my DLC Millie in various lighting conditions, and can safely say that the DLC on the Para 2s reflects a lot more light than the DLC on the Millie.

Until I read your update about what Spyderco customer service said, I hadn't considered it a possible warranty issue -- I just assumed they had changed their DLC application process or something and that this was normal for the new DLC Para 2s. Keep us updated on what Spyderco says after they have a look at your knife.

FWIW, until now, only the US made Spydies were DLC treated. The Japan Spydies are Carbonitride coated.

Not sure though if the new Japan models (Assist, Warrior) are still made that way.

The DLC is usually considered the better coating. It seems they changed the coating technique.

Spyderco says the coating should be the same as the other knifes, which is what I wanted and expected. Hopefully they can take care of it.

I just hope taking care of it doesn't involve a long wait for more to be produced. I love everything else about the knife.

As a newb to Spyderco's, can I ask why there is no Delica with a plain edge black blade? The only black model I find is with the combo edge.

Also, wish it came with more handle options like titanium and carbon fiber.

No intention to intrude on your other discussion.

If you mean you wish the Delica came with carbon and titanium options, it did come in carbon fiber but it was a sprint run and is long gone. I don't think it has ever been offered in titanium though...that would be awesome. I've noticed the same thing about the coating only coming on the combo edge...no idea why that is. It would be nice if you could mix and match more options...i'd love to have a FFG ZDP-189 waved DLC Delica with black anodized titanium handle.

I sent the Para 2 out to Spyderco today. Hated to do it, been waiting for this knife for a while.

I'll keep this post updated with what happens from here. I was hoping someone from Spyderco would chime in saying the process changed on the DLC coating or something so that I didn't have to send it in.

Oh well guess we will know in a few days.

I just ordered a black bladed Manix 2, and a regular coated Para 2, I REALLY want a black bladed Para but i noticed in some of the pictures the color did seem a bit... off.. and more brownish than i was expecting. Im glad i saw this.
Im going to wait to see what they do/offer to you Why J... I'd really love to get one, but i think i'd like more of a Carbonitride finish, the texture helps keep the reflection down etc etc.

I'll let you know how the Manix2 looks once i get it!

OK so I picked up my knives this morning and Im quite pleased with the color of the Manix2. Its a decent black color, but is sort of an oily brownish black at some angles. And finger prints make it look worse. Its reflective, but compared to a regular non coated blade its quite dull. Its got the DLC on it, which is a smooth polished finish. I'd still consider getting a Para 2 with this coating.

Any news from Spyderco ?

I'd really like to buy a Para 2 DLC but this coating problem is a big issue for me...
