Spyderco Newb Question

#1

Post by Flashpoint »

Hello Forum

Not really new to knives, but I am a bit new to Spyderco. Recently I've picked up a ZDP-189 Delica and FFG Endura, CTS-XHP Manix 2 (factory Seconds), and 2 PPTs to go along with one of my long standing EDC favorites, the Centofante 4.

That being said, let me ask this question. What's the deal with the funny little "W" with the arrow on the side on my Manix? At first I thought it had something to do with being a second, but then noticed it on other non-second knives.

That's Eric Glesser's logo. Eric Glesser is a knife designer and designed the Manix 2 along with other various knives.

When you look at all the designs on the market the Glesser family has many originals. There designs have sold many knives. There are really only a couple of folks in that category. Blackie Collins, Ken Onion, maybe Al Mar.

It is very appropriate that Eric and Sal sign their designs the same as myself.

Spyderco has introduced many consumer oriented ideas to the industry. Like collaborators and marking the type of steel in their blades. Who else has used USA, Earth?...Take care...Ed

I'm doing a paper on Spyderco and would really appreciate if I could have some more info on the sources from which they evolve their knives, like for example: from this forum, external and internal designers, user interaction. Also, is there some kind of timeline on the history of Spyderco?

I would love to have a talk with someone from Spyderco on the subject!!

BTW its for my Design Practicum class at my MBA in the University of Toronto.

You could track down a copy of the Spyderco Story. I covers the early history.

Hi Flashpoint and Marenoa,

Welcome to the Spyderco forum.

Marenoa,

There is a lot of information available. Unfortunately, most of the people that you could speak with at Spyderco are off to a couple of shows and will be travelling for a few weeks.
