UKPK Carbon Fiber

#1

Post by Lungbarrow »

Hooray!

I just placed my order for a UKPK CF. This will be my third UKPK. My first was the original black handled version; which I lost shortly after moving to San Antonio. :( The second was a grey FRN Drop Point, but that was really for my dad and I only "tested" it out for a week or so before sending it on. So really, this is my first new UKPK for me since 2005.

Locking folders are illegal to carry in public in San Antonio, TX, unless you passing through or traveling from your home to your job which reasonably requires use of a knife.

I've been using an Urban Wharncliffe, but I'm looking forward to the more gentleman's folder materials of the UKPK CF.

Alas, this isn't earth shattering news, but I'm excited and had to post! :D

Now, all I have to do is wait for the Squeak and I'll have the whole family. Not to mention cousins like the Kiwi Slipit and T-Mag.

The CF UKPK is superb - you will love it :)

I'm also looking forward to getting my hands on the Squeak - it sounds a perfect little pocketknife for EDC here :)
My spydies: Squeak, Tenacious, Terzuola, D'Allara, UKPK CF peel-ply pre-production, UKPK CF smooth pre-production, UKPK G10 orange leaf-blade, UKPK FRN grey drop-point, UKPK FRN maroon leaf-blade, Bug ... all PE blades :)

Enjoy, Lungbarrow! I didn't realize there was a "no locking knives" ruling there in S.A. Thanks for the heads-up, as I'll be taking vacation there later this year. UKPK it is...perhaps a Ladybug, too.

Here is UKPK CF next to Sage 3:

Congrats on your new knife!
Wow, lived in San Antonio for a year... never knew that! Heh, glad I never got pulled over.

It's "only" a Class C Misdemeanor; and I know a LOT of people who carry larger, locking, folding knives and have never had a problem. But I'd rather be safe than the one unlucky bugger who gets hit for it :D

I thought TX was the best place to own a knife

I live in west TX and AFAIK you can carry any knife, as long as the blade is no longer than 5.5", not an auto or balisong ("one handed openers"). I hope TX doesn't convert into the UK (or even Cali) as far as knife rules go.
You should never have to ask yourself "do i really need another knife?" The answer is obvious...

As far as San Antonio, it's just a silly San Antonio restriction, it is not statewide.

As far as California, that's where I moved from (and boy, do I miss the Pacific!). But, there you can pretty much carry anything you want as long as its not double-edged, a bali-song, or a switchblade.

Dragonfly was my first Spyderco, in 1999. Then I got a black FRN Calypso Jr. which was my EDC until the UKPK came out. I liked the lock on the Caly, but I wanted tip up and G10, so the lockless UKPK knocked the Caly out of my pocket.

Sal's ergos on the Caly/UK/Urban platform are, in my opinion, some of the best Spyderco has to offer.

I though they made you carry Bowie knives in San Antonio. I lived there back in 96 and never knew.
...oh you know why!

Is this a sprint run or regular production? Trying to figure out how much time I have to get one. Thanks!

Regular production, I think ... it coincided with the retiring of the G10 models so without the CF or Ti versions there would be no CPM-S30V UKPKs.

... and they are lovely knives, so don't miss out :D

Thanks ChrisR! I've been wanting a gentlemens folder to wear when I'm in nicer clothes, and wanted a smooth CF model to make sure it wouldn't tear up the pockets of my nice pants. This seems like the perfect model.

You might also like the Bob-T (aka, Terzuola) SLIPIT too ... it is a bit slimmer but the twill CF is still very suit-friendly and the whole look of it is very business-like :)
