Shabaria sprint

#1

Post by brj »

The Shabaria sprint in CF is, without a doubt, the most beautiful knife I own, but it has also proven to be a surprisingly useful EDC.
However, I seem to remember from Wouter's Amsterdam 2010 thread that the sprint pictured there had burgundy micarta handles. My question is, are we talking the same sprint here? Have I lost the micarta issue, I don't remember having seen it up for sale at any of the online stores that I frequent...

To my knowledge, it's the same sprint - the handle material was changed for reasons best known to Spyderco. The same for the Szabo Folder due out later this year. It had G-10 in the Amsterdam photos, but will have CF much like the Sage 1, I believe. And the color of the Sage 3 was black in those photos. Now blue.

So what you see in the Amsterdam photos isn't always how the finished product will look (in some cases that is).

And I agree with your assesment of the Shabaria - in terms of F&F, one the best I've received from Spyderco. OUTSTANDING!

Your memory isn't playing tricks, the prototype was burgundy micarta. Here's a link to Mr Blonde's post.

But, as Lev notes...

While it's great to get a peek at prototypes for new models, we sometimes forget that they are "works in progress" and thus subject to change.
