Hey, I thought this thread was about the Chaparral! Take your Sage talk elsewhere. I think the Chaparral is the most exciting project to me I've heard coming out of Shot!

Any more spy pics?

Sal, Can I recommend you drill the heck out of any Liner models to make this nice and light weight? A 2mm thick blade isn't going to be for tactical users. I want something that is more compact and lighter than a Caly3.

Any future plans for an FRN model? :D

You can check out al mar's knife website, to get an idea, he does seem to use the long bolster and a more forward lock-back design vs the more mid-lock style on the delica. from the list of materials for say his, hawk line it shows: stag, brown canvas micarta, black micarta, black pearl, cocbolo, honey jigged bone, mother of pearly, stainless steel, white micarta. One difference on another model, the osprey, was the use of abalone. just fyi :p

Skeletonized is fine. I'm just hoping there are two of them, and that they are full. Makes "scale transplants" easier. :o

As for an FRN version. I imagine, as in other cases, the chances of one will hinge heavily on the success of the "higher end" versions. Tooling up for FRN is expensive since the molds run $40K or more. Risky to do, unless you're fairly sure sales will justify it.

Do you have a price range?
Not Sal, but the only site I've seen with pricing info so far is Howes Knife Shop. They're showing an MSRP of $174.95 and are taking pre-orders for $110.22 shipped. This is shaping up to be another home run for Spyderco. I'm anxiously awaiting this release.

Where we us scales and liners, the linerw will be full, but skeletonized. The Titan versions will not have liners.

The Chaparral is a must-own for me. Smaller Sage-like design, lock back, thinner blade and wire clip = :D .

It looks great...I just hope that it comes in slightly cheaper, I'm not a man with a lot of money but I love me some Spyderco! And with 3-4 already on my list for as near in the future as possible...this might just break the bank!

Hi DBSS,

Prices are generally based on costs.

I will say that very few can afford to collect all Spyderrco's. That's one of the reasons that we will do various series of models; Kopa series, Sage Series, Chaparral series, etc. This gives some variety to the interests of our valued customers in a more affordable range.

The Chaparral series is a "gent's folder" that permits one to enjoy the quality and design of the model with different handle materials to experience. Like the Sage series, there are many options available.

We shortened the well to eliminate the need. It's a small knife and not likely to be white knuckled. Also I decided to listen to the Deacon on the lines and the dent.

Thanks Sal, It looks like a series that I am going to enjoy. Though I typically like my knives big and heavy, a nice gent's folder is always something I like to have with me, and the Chaparral looks like a real winner to me!

Instead of calling it the "Chaparral", it should have been called "The Deacon"! :D

I think that if I were to make a knife called "the Deacon", I would rather have Paul direct the design of the model.
