Which one? I have the Native 2. It is my edc work knife. I wish the FRN handle were just a hair thinner but it stays sharp and fits in the hand great. Its very easy to get a good tight grip on it and not worry about my finger slipping forward because of the good sized choil on the blade. I like it a lot.
The beauty of the second amendment is that it will not be needed until they try to take it.

Funny you posted this. I just got through sharpening a Native that I gave to my son. It is his first Spydie of probably many more to come. I carried it for about 4 years daily as a hard user knife. It is still one of my favorites, I just decided to go ahead and pass it on to the boy. I'm thinking about possibly getting the Native 5 when it is available. The Native would be a good choice and should not disappoint.

These two parts (in bold) of this statement are contradictory, as the Native 2 is stainless steel.

Here are some sources of information:

For the Native 1 (or lightweight Native), the Native 2, and the Native 4
http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?title=C41_Native

For the Native 3
http://www.spydiewiki.com/index.php?tit ... Native_III

And for general overall information (scroll down the left-hand column and click on "Native'.)
http://paulberetta.com/

I would also have included links for Ted's pages, but they do not seem to be working anymore.

Hope this is of some help to you. :D

Also keep in mind, the Native V is supposed to be coming out this year and will likely be an improvement over the other natives. That said, it may be a while before it hits the market and will initially cost more since it will probably come out as a G-10/liner version before the cheaper FRN version arrives.

I have a Native 3 and like it pretty well, but prefer the Sage I. They have similar designs, but the Sage just fits my hand better. Your experience may vary from mine, however. I really like the swedge on the Native and prefer it's back lock to my Sage's liner lock. The Native is a solid knife that is well designed, but my two biggest qualms are: 1) the point on the bottom, middle of the handle is a bit pointy and can rub weird on my hand. I would prefer the bump to be slightly more subdued and rounded off. 2) the handle partially blocks the Spyder-hole. This isn't as big of a deal as problem #1, as it only comes into play for a fraction of a second while opening the knife whereas #1 is slightly annoying for longer periods of time while holding it. Both are pretty minor issues though and I'm happy with the knife. It's a good price for a U.S. built model with a high quality steel.

It's a great knife. It was just about my grail knife until i started buying and handling more Spydies...now, not so much. The thing i've found that i don't like about it is 1) the hole is tiny and partially shrouded by the handle and 2) the hole seems to be located further towards the tip of the blade than on a lot of other knives i've owned, which puts it further towards the middle of the handle when closed, which for me makes it harder to open compared to something like a Delica. I fell in love with the big 50/50 finger choil and big middle finger cutout...which is still my favorite thing about it. Once the knife is open, i love how it feels in my hand, but it takes a little more dexterity to open than other knives. It could be a lot better if the hole was closer to the pivot, larger in diameter, and less shrouded by the handle.

bohica1998 is right. I have the 1st generation, not the Native 2, which is SS. Again, great knife. Thanks.

Any thoughts on the C41CFP: CF, VG-10, Japan, circa 2008-2009? Looks real nice, but NIB it's going for 80% of its original retail. Seems a bit much.

The Native 1 is a great knife. Its one of the best lightweight knives you could own for the price. I have an older 440V SE version that I bought with a broken tip and repaired. It has become one of my favorite work knives.

I can't wait to see what happens with the frn Native 5. I really hope it stays liner-less despite the trend to go to full steel lined. Ideally I would like to see a wire clip like the Native 3 had.
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Hello, I'm not sure if anyone's said already but welcome to the forum.

The Native, along with the Delica is my 2 favorite mid-priced Spyderco folders. I have 4 versions, the Native III, FRN Native, Native 4, and the 2009 Forum Native.

Native III has a fatter and rounded handle that fits very well in hand, wire clip, wide spaced jimping and VG-10 hollow ground blade. The finger choil is slightly rounder as well.

The current FRN Native from Golden has a slimmer, flat handle with grippy texturing, flat pocket clip, very aggressive square jimping, and S30v hollow grind blade.

The Native 4 has a FFG VG-10 blade, smooth carbon fiber scales over skeletonized liners and an hourglass clip. It's heavier than the other Natives due to the liners.

The Spyderco forum Native is a hybrid with the standard FRN Native handle and a FFG S30v blade.

For me, the forum Native is the best version due to the flatter handle that carries easily in the pocket and the FFG blade. They are a bit hard to find and the price is a bit higher. And the Native 4 is obviously a premium version. The Natives are all fairly lightweight and very well suited for EDC. The Native III has the best ergonomics but I notice the extra bulk in the pocket. Nothing bad, but still something I noticed when going back and forth with the FRN Native.

I used to EDC C41 native and Native for about half a year each. In my opinion they are very good knives. I love ergos. Prefer FFG blade of Native4 and as was mentioned above "2009 Spyderco Forum Native" is even better. I prefer knives without swedge. Native5 looks sweet. I am planning to get one.

I have at least 6 knives within the Native line (C41 primarily)...and I like them. Half of them have received regrinds. :)

The Native IV is very likely my favorite knife of all time. I love the heft, the compactness, the ergos and the aesthetics. Mine is currently en route to Spyderco to have them evaluate a few QC issues but the design is solid. I am hoping the folks in CO can improve on the product of those in Seki.
