Since it's not a stainless steel I assume you have to oil it weekly?

I wipe mine down every week or two, depending on volume of use.

I would say that it depends on the finish of the steel itself. I have a D2 minigrip that is black coated and a D2 Kabar Dozier folder that is polished.

I have never had rust on either one and have carried them often (especially the minigrip, which was my edc for 2 years plus). Granted, I have not soaked them in sweat or water (I'm not particularly hard on my knives) but I have received rust specks on AUS8 knives in similar carry situations. I spray them down with RemOil or CLP whenever I remember to do so (definitely less than 1x a month).

IMO D2 is a great steel for folders; if you sharpen it with a "toothy" edge, it will hold it for a long time.

Hope this helps.

I live in Orange County, too, and I haven't had any problems with rust on my Kershaw composite blade Leek, without using oil. It's pretty dry here so as long as you wipe it after using it on something wet, it should be fine.

I'll be moving to Texas, which is known for its high humidity, which is why I'm a bit worried about it

I give my D2 Para a quick wipe with a silicon gun cloth when I put it away. It also gets a drop or two of CLP Breakfree a few times a year. I haven't had any issues with it here in the Northeast.

Ira
