I agree that the Catcherman is a pretty cool knife. But I like fixed blade knives for dirty jobs. As others have said before, a Spyderco filet knife would be one more entry into a very crowded market....although in H-1, it would be special.

True, but the "best" I have found to use as a folding fillet knife is the ~$20 Normark/Rapala and the large SS Opinel. Of the two, I prefer the Normark/Rapala in-use (but like 'the look' of the Opinel). I too normally use a fixed blade for fish & game, but I like carrying a folding fillet knife for backpacking/canoeing trips and I think an H-1 Catcherman would be a superb trout/panfish/food-prep knife.

I wonder if the release of this will increase secondhand market value on the Catcherman 1

In the past two years or so that people have been kicking this idea around, several have pointed out modest upswings on Ebay, etc. -- just due to the chatter. I'm guessing you might see a bump.

Sorry if its been posted recently elsewhere...but I think this idea is awesome...can't think of a better thing to bring back in H1 than the Catcherman. Seems like it would be a natural choice....PLEASE do this!!!

Larger blade selection, yellow handle, H-1 steel

#54

Post by JD Spydo »

I'm still hoping that they will bring back the Catcherman in PE, CE & SE. But again I would like to reiterate that making it available in at least 2 different sizes would really make sense.

One competitor that had a fillet knife that I sort of liked was an older Cold Steel fillet knife when they made it available in different 3 sizes in the older Carbon V steel. It was truly a God-Send to have it available in 3 different sizes because of the wide array of uses in the fishing sector. Not to mention all the other wide array of meat cutting chores you could use one with.

Having one in the original Catcherman size/format would be great but I would also love one with a larger blade ranging from 8 to 10 inches as well. I always loved the older Catcherman in the original, early 90s yellow handle. That would go great with an H-1 blade along with the other great blades in the SALT Series.

I would just like them to be available again and not at the $100+ ebay price.

I'd love to pick up some Catcherman's. It'd be great if we could get it in H1 but I'd settle for CTS-BD1.

I've been waiting for this knife. Does anyone know anything? Last I heard Sal was considering a limited run in the Usual Suspects Green FRN.

Lanyard, & fully serrated

#60

Post by JD Spydo »

I would really like to see Spyderco put a really nice lanyard ( preferrably nylon). Also it should by all means be available in full Spyderedge. I still marvel at how good my old Catcherman full Spyderedge works with AUS-8 blade steel.

And maybe even make optional a special type of sheath for those who work on ships that process fish and other seafood.
