Good ole Manix 80mm
Good ole Manix 80mm
I would like to have a "ball" lock Manix, but today:
This Manix, which I got back when they first came out, has seen tough service and I still rely on. You will see in the pics it's well broken in. The texture has smoothed out a lot, the clip has finish worn off. Also, you will see the simple mods I did along the way.
1. Shortened the clip.
2. Rounded the corners of G10.
3. Stonewashed the blade.
4. Put small but tasteful swedge on the blade.
Great knife the Manix!

SCARAMOUCHE!
Uh did you do something to the tip-down clip screw holes?
Or is that just Photoshop?

Thicker blade stock, more robust feel due to the solid backstrap, a lanyard hole that doesn't look like the Holland Tunnel, and no tacky looking jimping on the liners.Evil D wrote:So what's the main difference between this and the Manix 2 besides the lock design?

It's 11 grams heavier than the standard Manix 2, 154gm vs 143gm. Weight of the thicker blade and backstrap are probably offset, to some extent, by the fact its liners are skeletonized. Most, perhaps all, of the Sprint Manix 2's have skeletonized liners and would be even lighter.Evil D wrote:Wow i don't know how i missed all the liner jimping..i did notice the backstrap but it didn't really register until you noted it. How does the weight compare?

It is definitely not the first time I show these pics, but because it kind of fits in here, plus I like them so much... :) here they are again.Evil D wrote:So what's the main difference between this and the Manix 2 besides the lock design?
Now, somebody needs to post a disassembled Manix 2, and we're set.

Nice pics. Even after owning the CF S90V sprint I still never really warmed to the Manix 2 (for a variety of minor reasons). Consequently I soon sold that on.
I still have my Mini Manix though! I think there is truly something special about the Golden produced overbuilt large lock backs. I hope is something we have not seen the last of, now that the Chinook has been discontinued too...

I really like all the small mods you did to your Manix gull wing. It's all those little things that make the knife truly yours in another level. :spyder: I found a combo edge Mini Manix on the bay onetime at a great price and jumped at it. It's has to be one of my all time favorite Spyderco's. While the Manix2 is a really nice knife the mini Manix was an awesome knife. One day I'll have to find a flat edge one.
Here's some shots of the two Manix's that I have.
